My wife & I are going to Rib River Ballroom this evening for their New Year's party. The ballroom is about 11 miles West of Wausau. It starts @ 8pm and goes until 1am. The price is $50 per couple, this includes a hot and cold buffet all night, open bar all evening, a live 7pc. orchestra (polka), and party favors at midnight. Seating is reserved, and they limit it to 250 people. The link shows what the ballroom looks like inside. It was built in 1933.

I will be doing the same as last year, staying home and watch the ball drop on tv.

I hope everyone has a safe and Happy New Year.

I'm making food to take to the intimate gathering friends are hosting. Lots of finger foods---tartlets with various fillings; spreads with little canape breads; puff pastry roll-ups stuffed with mozzarella, olives and pepperoni--- that sort of thing. And I made a round Jewish rye bread (I call the recipe "Oy! Such A Loaf!") to hollow out for the obligatory spinach dip.

After many, many years of getting crazy drunk/high on the big night, (wait, make that almost every night) my New Year's Eves now tend to be very low-key. I don't drink or drug anymore; now, I'm the who drives the one-too-many crowd home at the end of the evening. My, how things do change, LOL! My friends in Minnapolis joke that they miss the annual New Year's day "Have You Seen Eugene's Car?" hunt.

Whether you're going out clubbing with hundreds or having a quiet evening at home, Happy New Year's Eve, everyone, from Frigilux.

I am in Palm Springs, California with a friend to usher in the New Year. It is nice to visit after having lived in
Palm Springs for 8 years. I drive back home to Tucson on
January 1 and begin the new year.

We're hosting a party tonight, which has become something of a tradition. We didn't ask for RSVP's this time so don't know how many to expect. At least a dozen or so. We got a spiral ham, rolls and cheese for sandwiches, other finger food, plenty of champagne and we'll have a little rolling bee once our friend with the very green thumb shows up. The patio heater has a full tank, the bar is cleared off and we're ready to party! Well, once we clean house a little.

Hope everyone has a happy and healthy 2009.

I never go out--Never.
I'm too much of a homebody, I usually iron and am in bed (alone unless the cat counts) by 10:00. I usually hear the neighbors; the hardest part is remembering to write the next year on my checks.

We were going to go to the All-You-Can-Swallow with Carol and MJ like last year, but we're going to stay in with them here, have a nice pasta and italian pork tenderloin meal, and play cards/board games.

Happy and Safe night to all!

Chuck and Rich

My friend Linn and I

are going to be at her place.

Pizza, wings, shrimp, a fireplace fire, and 2 dvds.

I know, such wildness, but it suits the two of us just fine. This is going to be our 5th in a row.

Here's hoping everyone has a good and safe time this evening.

High Times

Well Tim, that's more or less the circumstances with any party we throw or attend. I guess it's a Northern California thing. Or maybe a 40+ thing too since that describes nearly all who will be in attendance. One thing for sure, and that is that 2009 is cause for even more celebration than the eight previous years! Glad I'm not driving tonight!

How do you make your Italian Pork Tenderloin? I am always looking for new ways to prepare it. Going to try a new recipe tomorrow for one marinated in Chipotle Peppers in Adobo sauce.

I have never been much of a fan of New Years Eve.
This year I am going out with my friend Karen, who I have known since grade two.
I lost track of her 16 years ago and just found her on Face Book. She was just laid off from her job on Christmas Eve day and is back in the area.
We are going to a restored hotel here in my small town.Ten dollars to get in and a buffet at 12.30. Should be fun

We celebrated NYE down on the Gold Coast with Friends and their kids, had High Tea at around 4pm at the Palazzo Versace Hotel, a flutter in the Casino and then Dinner around 8pm on the beachfront where we could watch the fireworks.

Had the friends and kidlets home by 10pm and headed back to Brisbane.

Today we fly out to Longreach, which is 1200km NE of Brisbane in Central Queensland (Outback) for 4 days, with the key attraction for Michael being to visit the Qantas Founders Museum and do the tours of the 747, 707 and DC3 in original Qantas livery.

How do you make your Italian Pork Tenderloin?

Adjust the amounts of each spice to your taste.

Grind rosemary and Italian seasoning with a few peppercorns. Add that to some kosher salt, granulated garlic, and coarsely ground peppercorns and enough olive oil to make a loose paste. Rub all over the tenderloin. Wrap in plastic wrap and store in the fridge for at least 2 hours.

When ready to cook, you might want to rub most of the rub off of the tenderloin because the cooked pepper can be overwhelming to some. In an oven safe pan with olive oil, brown the tenderloin on all sides. Transfer to a 375f oven for about 15 minutes (more or less depending on the thickness of your tenderloin) until the internal temp is about 145. Remove from pan and cover w/ foil to rest for 10 minutes. Slice and serve!

Enjoy,
Chuck
p.s.- I'd like to try yours, but I can't use chipotle or other hot peppers for the most part because Rich doesn't enjoy as much heat as I do. Though, he does enjoy a dash of Frank's in his pasta!
