K i am leaving the 10th... Wanna visit New York on the 11th i think but should i aviod it because i would be one of those inept travlers from the south?? Wouldn't even knwo where not to get murderd, lol... How far is southboro from there?? Help?? Thanks

Chad~

NYC is hardly the dangerous place it once was. The crime rate there is at a 30 yr low thanks to Mayor Bloomberg and his policies.Just avoid the Bronx. Manhattan is very safe. I don't understand why people from the south fear NYC. I grew up just outside of NYC on Long Island and I think it is one of the best places to live in this country.
To answer your question, Southboro,Mass is approx 3.5 hrs north of NYC.

Crime was on its way down long before Mayor Bloomberg, and for that matter Mayor Guliani caem on the scene. Factors are many, but much of it has to do with LE methods, changing demographics, and the nature of "crime".

Much of what drove crime, illicit drugs and prositution amoung other things are still around, and probably in greater numbers; however the Internet, cell phones and the like have made standing around on corners obsolete. Saying goes you can order ANYTHING to be delivered in NYC, and that is very true.

Still, while it is safe to walk around most if not all parts of NYC, especially at night; one simply must use some common sense.

Thanks.. Lodging, i know hotels are $$$$$ in new york.. is it wise to stay out side of new york city or? not a bad drive

Hey Chad,

You're looking at about 3 to 3.5 hours from NYC, depending on how you drive. We just came through there this past weekend, and can help with the major roads to avoid when leaving there if you need it.

launderess~

Actually Violent crime, ( murder) has been going down since Mayor Dinkins admin. But of course, Giuliani takes credit for all that.
Crime is something that can happen any place or anytime.I live in Orlando and violent crime is up here in the land of Disney 166% in just 3 years!.It just peeves me a bit when people view NYC as this crime infested place, when in reality considering the large population in Manhattan, it is quite low.

There are some nice, and even new hotels in Brooklyn and Queens. Of course you have to get back into the city. Some of the newer hotels in Brooklyn are in or near downtown, so the City is only a short cab or train/bus ride away. Others tend to be far out by the airports making the trip in a bit more difficult. Parking is a bear, so if you plan on driving in, factor this in as well.

re: hotels.....

You might want to consider staying outside the city the night before, and driving in to NYC the AM of the 11th. You should find affordable lodging within an hour's drive!

Whenever friends come to town ...

they stay at any one of the following locations:

Courtyard Jersey City Newport
540 Washington Boulevard
Jersey City, New Jersey 07310 USA

The Courtyard is adjacent to the Pavonina/Newport PATH station. PATH is a subway that connects New York and New Jersey. (http://www.panynj.gov/CommutingTravel/path/html/) It's approximately a 15 minute train ride to the City.

Doubletree Hotel Jersey City
455 Washington Boulevard
Jersey City, New Jersey, USA 07310

The Doubletree is a block from the Pavonia/Newport PATH station. The Doubletree has a free shuttle van that will take you to the Hoboken train station, which has ferry service to and from the City. http://www.nywaterway.com/ferry/schedules/ferry-route.asp?ferryid=98

Both the Courtyard and the Doubletree are near the entrance to the Holland Tunnel.

Sheraton Suites on the Hudson
500 Harbor Boulevard
Weehawken, New Jersey 07086

The Sheraton is near the entrance to the Lincoln Tunnel. The Sheraton is right next to the Lincoln Habor ferry: http://www.nywaterway.com/ferry/schedules/ferry-route.asp?ferryid=99. The Sheraton also provides van service to the Port Imperial ferry: http://www.nywaterway.com/ferry/schedules/ferry-route.asp?ferryid=100

In my opinion, the ferry is one of the most relaxing ways to get to and from the City.
