Im thinking of making New York City my next dream vaca, anyone with advice or suggestions?

A friend of ours vacationed in NYC back in September or October. He came back and could not stop repeating, "I LOVE New York" and can't wait to go back.
That having been said, he's not hurting for money since his late partner had set him up quite well financially, and I'm sure that made a big difference regarding how much the city has to offer that he could easily afford, particularly with regard to accommodations.
