Hi everyone..SQ AWN432.. About 3 months old. It has worked great until tonight when I washed a lightweight jacket, everything was fine until just about the end of the final spin when it started making a blood curdling scream. It was very loud and hard to explain...my doors are shut but the neighbor heard it. Now I find the hook for the jackets zipper is missing.so I'm wondering if it ended up where it shouldn't be. Any idea what has happened? I do plan to call the dealer on Monday. Thank you. Cheryl
 
Likely got into the pump, if it's under warranty, I'd try running another load and see if you can dislodge it. If not under warranty, I wouldn't, as it could destroy the pump impeller. You might open it up and remove the hoses from the pump, see if you can dislodge it by hand? If you aren't comfortable doing that, I'd call for service. Could have also jammed between the inner and outer tubs?
 
My first instinct in such a situation (after discovering a piece was missing) would be to pop the front panel off and remove the pump and check for the lost piece. I believe they're quite easy to access given its held on by a clip, and the hoses just have two spring clamps.
If you're handy I might give that a try. If not, call for service (or if you think you can get to it but might mess something up)
 
Noisey SQ TL Washer

Try running the machine through another cycle, with nothing in it if you like.

 

It is easy to take the washer front panel off if you like and see if the noise is coming from the water pump. It is also easy to remove the hoses from the pump [ they have screw type clamps ] but it really will not do you much good. Taking the water pump off the motor is a PITA, I do not recommend any one try it unless they have to [ it is usually easier to remove the entire motor assembly if you need to replace or service the water pump ]

 

The good news is that the washer is under warranty if the little part of the jacket does not dislodge itself from the pump and go down the drain.
 
Ok just a few minutes ago I tried to run a empty load, it filled up fine but immediately when agitation started it began that very loud noise so its not just with spin its also with agitation. I don't feel comfortable looking for the zipper part since I for sure won't know what I'm doing. I will have to call for service tomorrow, but now I have a tub of water and don't know if I should let it agitate awhile to try and dislodge this thing, spin it out or just let the water in there lol...I'm telling you the washer problems I had a few months ago and now this..the appliance Gods are out to get me.
 
Well it makes sense you'd hear it during agitation. The pump is always running as long as the motor is on. I'd attempt to drain it down as that might flush it out. Letting it agitate will probably just make it worse.
 
Thank you all.I did drain it down, but no luck in dislodging it, I'll call tomorrow for service. I hope this isn't going to be a long wait..and I really hope they will honor my warrenty and not say user error. They can't do that can they lol? Thanks Cheryl
 
Not quite user error.

If they will blame it on you, they'll probably argue the other way arround: The warranty is there to cover faults due to poor&#92improper&#92wrong manufacturing. Your fault is not caused by any kind of wrong manufacturing (given it actually is the zipper piece) thus not covered by warranty.

IF they ever try to say so. Especially with higher priced manufacturers, and manufacturers that are not main stream brands, there is usually a big drive not to loose customers over such little things, thus, even if something dosen't quite fit the warranty regulations, they'll just cover it anyway.

It, still, could be some kind of drive system related problem due to an imbalance, especially if you washed a single jacket. But that again would then be surely covered by warranty.

On a side note, we're pending a service call as well tomorrow on our oven, but I'll post about it once it all went past. And hopefully, they'll not fuzz about. My birthday and holidays are getting closer, and not a single bit of sweet goodness has yet been backed. *ugh*
 
most service guys will work with you, especially on warranty repairs, especially if they don't note any sort of major damage/abuse....

something like this, and it could be that zipper part, they will log it in as a defective pump, and put on a replacement.....

problem solved!.....

I have a Fler, and over time the electric pump will get noisy , well THAT is not covered as long as it still works, so the guy just marked it down as non-functioning, and ordered a replacement...he gets paid either way....

like others have said, not worth having a disgruntled customer over something simple......

keep us posted as to how you make out....

not to be judgmental, but those under wire bras can cause havoc on pumps......can't count how many jams I had to clear from one of those.....even with a mesh bag, those things will still find their way out....I am constantly checking the pockets from the kids, preventative maintenance is what I call it....lol
 
Thank you everyone..I'll let you know how it goes when I get someone here. But I bet they won't rush out lol. No underwire bras for me lol..I'm too old for those new fangled things. I know what you mean about preventive I check every pocket and zip every zipper I'm wondering if I should even tell them about the missing zipper hook. Cheryl

Agreed. I would avoid mentioning the zipper hook. Why give fuel for a fire of argument that "it's not Speed Queen's problem?"

Although, personally, to a degree I'd almost argue that perhaps there is a design flaw here. I don't know much about the realities of top load design; however I think it's not unreasonable to expect incidents like this to occur. Even with care, stuff can break in the wash. And so it seems reasonable that a pump system should be designed with that thought in mind.
 
On a lighter note

When I first saw this thread title about a screaming Speed Queen, my first thought: "That washer has been watching too many horror movies."

Perhaps a horror movie like: "The Family That Only Washed in Cold Water." LOL
 
Alr.its the hook from a zipper, that little thinh you pull the zipper up with lol.
LordKenmore..it would for sure send my Queen screaming if she was filled with cold water LOL...

I called this morning for service, I only mentioned the noise and that I shut it off immediately, they can't send anyone until Thursday or Friday, he told me its a big week for hunting so he's short staffed. I guess its not unreasonable to wait a few days at least they are comming this week. Thanks everyone and I'll let you know what happens. Cheryl
 
I think the Queens ok

I decided to try again..I filled up with no laundry. When agitation started so did the loud noise so I shut it off and waited an hour and turned it on again no noise at all this time and spin was completely normal so I guess the zipper hook broke loose. I'm about to run a load of laundry and see what happens but should I cancel service or just tell them it appears to be operating normally but would like them just to take a look??? crap

It ran thru the complete test cycle just fine so I started a load of twin size sheet set..filled up but 10 seconds into agitation the noise started again. Guess ill be keeping the service appt. Lol. Cheryl
 
I will not cancel service ..I did 3 small loads last night the noise was gone on all 3 until the end of final spin on last load..so...now my question is. .my clothespin for lid lock surely won't void my warrenty will it ? Thanks everyone Cheryl
 
It is weird that this occurs so intermittently. Unless the "hook" that we do not speak of sometimes gets pushed partially up the drain hose. Maybe it gets pulled back into the pump when the motor is running in reverse for agitation.  If this zipper hook or whatever is getting in the pump, yet cannot get pushed totally up and out the drain, if this is actually the problem.  Just thinking outside the box what if you got some 5 gallon buckets and lowered the drain hose during spin.  Maybe whatever foreign object it is would drain out of the hose, if it did not have to travel UP the drain hose, but flow out with the gravity and the force of the pump.  Just a thought.  If the machine is in some kind of tight space like a hallway laundry closet I would wait for service.  Reading your post again, could it be possible that the pump does not have enough force to pump the zipper hook up and out? Art
 
I received a call a few minutes ago. .they can't send anyone till next Wednesday. ..but I ran 3 loads this morning so far and everything sounded normal. I will continue trying to get this laundry caught up but if I hear the noise again I won't run it again no sense in causing more damage...but I have a feeling it may have flushed out. Thank you Art...well today I did a total of 8 loads, trying to get caught up and the washer ran flawlessly. The loud noise is gone nor is there any other unusual sounds. I'm assuming if it was the zipper hook stuck somewhere it did break free and went down the drain. I'm very relieved about this, ...I just hope this didn't cause a secondary problem that will rear its ugly head one of these days lol....Cheryl
 
I'm glad it all turned out okay. Nothing more distressing to the running of the household than when an appliance acts up. I never did the clothespin trick nor adjust water level on my machine, don't want the service company to say that I voided out the warranty, but really I'm doing just fine the way they installed it. I don't wash HUGE loads, and I don't really want to, as we are only a two person household.
