It was only a matter of time before someone applied for a patent for legalized privacy invasion.

I'll never go anywhere near Facebook. The second you sign up it immediately puts your personal and contact data in seachable databases, before it even bothers to ask if you'd like to share this info. Beyond pathetic.

Ditto. I have no interest in creating a profile on Facebook or any other social networking site. I get spammed by Facebook on a regular basis already with fake invitations to join simply because someone has my e-mail address stored in their e-mail program's list of contacts. Facebook is already taking too many liberties with information its membership has stored on their computers. I'm hoping against hope that this social networking crap will run its course and fall out of favor. Perhaps with this latest ploy they've started digging their own grave.

I received two "invitations" from facebook to become a coworker's friend. The second time I received the invitation, I explained to my coworker that I could not become her facebook friend because I was not a member of facebook. She apologized and said dhe did not know how that happened because she had never initiated such a request. I wonder if you are mentioned in a member's postings would the Big Brother part of facebook find you and contact you with an invite? That makes these things even scarier. I know the Internet has turned many conventions on their heads, but I still remember what an 8th grade teacher told us in regard to what was then called vandalism and is now known by other terms, "People's names, like monkey's faces, don't belong in public places."
