Well, well....That's an interesting concept. I suppose it would be handy if you had no cupboards in your kitchen. On the other hand, making the oven as small as possible so as to make room for storage seems a highly suspect idea.

A peeve of mine that concerns vintage stoves, is that they make a trade-off for storage in favor of oven capacity! DUH!

I want an oven I can bake all three 9in. cake pans on the same rack thank you. The old Westy's come to mind--the whole front of the damn stove was the oven door! Not many of the oldies had that large an oven.

My mid-fifties O'Keefe & Merritt has a fairly small oven due to the needless storage space. Oh, but, it looks kool so I endure.

I initially thought my old wide O'keefe & Merritt oven was smaller than a modern oven. But I realized that, while narrower, it is deeper. After measuring, it seems to be about the same cubic feet as the average new stove oven, at least compared to the newer model that was in my house when I bought it. I agree that a nice wide large oven like some of the old Westies would be nicer, but I can fit a turkey in mine, and that is about the biggest thing that I'll probably ever cook.

If you've seen some of those primitive kitchens born of the pre-war era, you know why some ranges were made like this. I definitely vote for more oven and less storage too, but then I've always had the luxury of modern kitchen cabinets.

That Westinghouse mentioned above is truly a sight to behold! That is the largest home oven I have ever seen. That would be wonderful for holidays and baking!
