A world impacted by homosexuality - wow, I never knew I had

So this tragic farce unfolds. It is quite comical in a black sense (no racial pun intended). Now, I am just wondering what exactly traditional African family values are and how these values co-relate to traditional evangelical perspectives. For those who may not know, traditional African family values, like everything else that is 'traditionally' African, bears little resemblance to Western, especially evangelical values.

These people just don't give up. What are they trying to do? Achieve some holy-moly utopia in some unstable third world country? Spread hate and human rights abuses through Christ's love? Of course, when they get pulled up on their nonsense and its consequences, they feign innocent shock and horror. Yeah Right!

What needs to happen is that religious institutions/groups must be taken to account for these types of activities. They should be dragged before the United Nations for reckless mischief; inciting hatred and violence against vulnerable minorities through falsehoods and general misinformation. If I had it my way I'd put these missionaries before the Human Rights court in the Hague.

Sadly, this and many other such stories never make it to the mainstream news. Thus, most people out there are blissfully unaware about what these freaks get up to in the name of their celestial sphagetti monster.

Just another day in Uganda!

Only thirty years ago Uganda was ruled by Idi Amin. His political achievements included widespread corruption, the harrassment and persecution of ethnic and racial minorities, widespread torture, cursory executions and sundry human rights abuses. He was referred to as the 'Butcher of Africa'. It is also rumored that he ate parts of his murdered enemies. I surmise that a number of Ugandans, active in the current government, judiciary and public service, also served under Idi Amin. Corruption is still rife and so are human rights abuses. Just because we don't hear much about that place anymore, doesn't mean that things have turned peachy. Thus, this latest revelation isn't all that surprising. I guess bad habits die hard.

is composed of many abusers of Human Rights. So they are not going to come in and sweep the country clean, as it were. Oh, they will talk, but thats about it. Lip service.

This would be the perfect time for for a "true believer" of influence, to take a stand and put a stop to this mentality. The idea that the American Evangelicals have to "win a war against Homosexuality" anywhere and anyway possible needs to stop. A ridiculous mentality. However, as has been the case with millions of others over hundreds of years, it seems like every hundred years or so the people representing the "Christian" community latch on to a cause meant to wreak havoc and destruction on some various and sundry group of people.

Interestingly, as of late, after literally centuries of persecution at the hands of the "good" Christians (usually instructed by the Vatican) and millions of dead, suddenly Jews and anything "Jewish" have become "in vogue" with the evangelicals. Go figya! Strangely the evagelicals don't seem to understand why Jews don't want to snuggle-up and share their new-found "love" with them.

Well, add homosexuality to the already volatile mix racism (yes, black against black) and every other type of hatred that can be stirred-up against one another after years of the most abject poverty and the desolation it causes---- and, well, it's the perfect environment for the corrupt representitives of
the Lord to find a base to spread their venom.

It has taken years to convince many Ugandan's of the merit of destroying homosexuals. And It will likely take even longer to try to stop it.
Sounds just like what has happened right here in America, just without the disasterous legislation----yet.

after making the comment "usually instructed by the Vatican" I should also have included the abuses by the Roman's,Greek's of the "Orthodox" Church headquarterd in Constantinople and Slavic branch's in Poland and Russia, Latvia, Lithuania,et al, Lutheran's, and Nazi's which would have included the vast MAJORITY of Austrian's and German's at the time. (Funny, somehow I wonder why the Japanese weren't in on it too.) Anyway------------

We can only hope the mentality we are seeing in Uganda, does not spread to the rest of the African Continent.
 
There is a lot of hate in many of the "followers" of Jesus. It was long directed at Jews and Blacks. I grew up in the South so I know a little bit about this. Civil Rights laws partially restrained the open preaching of hate against these two groups so the hate was directed against homosexuals. Just like the hate spewed against Jews, the hate spewed against homosexuals had (weak) Biblical foundations and was preached in religious fora where religious liberty gave shelter to the hate speech. People who hate one minority group generally hate other groups of people who are different. That was what Rod Serling was saying in the closing narration to the Twilight Zone episode "He's Alive."

The only reason that the Evangelicals are professing support for Israel, not Jews in general, is because they believe that Israel as a nation must exist for the Messiah to come to end the world. They expect Jews to convert to Christianity, as if there will be any need at that point. As for the rest of the non-Christians in that era, the Evangelicals delight in picturing the torments that will be visited upon them; genuine love on display.

Unfortunately Africa is the continent with the most laws against gays, especially gay men. Uganda is by far not the only country that has laws forbidding homosexual relationships.

In Mauritania, Nigeria, Sudan, Chad and Somalia there is a death penalty on it.

Uganda, Kenya and Ethiopia have a more than 10 years imprisonment on it.

Less than 10 years, but still imprisonment in Cameroon, Burundi, Morocco, Algeria, Tunesia, Libya and Egypt.

So, from what Louis is saying I gather a lot of the homophobia in other African countries comes from an Islamic influence, since that would be a common denominator of the countries listed.

BTW, Tom, I can remember when the baptists in Atlanta would stare someone right in the face and tell them the Bible condemned them for race, religion, and any number of other "evils". I often wondered where they got that information as I had a strong suspicion that they were illiterate to begin with. Nonetheless, quoting the "King James" "version" as it was, did not convince me in the slightest that they knew what the hell they were talking about. In those days it seemed to me that all southern baptists were only motivated by fear of some sort.
 
LOL, well that may have been the case, but they truly believed the stupid stuff they said was from the Bible.
That generation of old Atlanta has long since passed.
 
I used to counter that crap with the request, "Could you quote that in Hebrew from the real Bible?"

Honestly, for people that are supposed to be filled with the Creator's love, many of the most "religious" people I have encountered have been the most bitter, hateful and spiteful people I have ever seen; so ready to rip someone up for doing something that they don't approve of, usually something done in private, of which they should have no knowledge and of which they have no proof. They use religion as a weapon just as sure as Muslim terrorists do, because they are hate-filled people. And they use religion to make themselves miserable. Maybe if they would take a drink or move a bit when they hear some music, they might feel better, but they say that the Bible forbids it which is pure bull crap. These political and religious leaders who are so obsessed with gay sex don't have me fooled for one minute. Enough of them have been caught squeezin' the Charmin that the rest should realize that ranting against it is admitting you got the hungries for it. Why do you think that Warren is so heavy? He's probably satisfying urges with food.

I say "try," because I know I come up short on a regular basis, but I do make a daily effort to be kind, generous, thought-ful towards others.....

The Episcopal Church in America had a wonderful saying a few years back (not direct quote, but close): "Jesus died to take my sins, not my mind."

I am going through a time that is more difficult than usual, and it's partly about faith, participation in a traditional, if very accepting congregation, and my life.

Again, I do not deny that many people have been hurt, and hurt deeply by some who are convinced they are on the path, but who are on their own interpretation thereof.

I for one, am not trying to attack you for your religious beliefs. I am also a person on deep faith.

What I am talking about is history. It is unfortunate that fundamentalists from all the different faiths can create so much bitterness, but, it is what it is. Specifically, the people who call themselves "good Christians" and are, in fact, hipocrites as they are anything but, are what I am talking about. I have had the pleasure of knowing about a half-dozen really "good" Christians in my life and I'm glad I had the opportunity to know them. That having been said, I cannot undo centuries of human rights abuses at the hands of the Christian church at large.

As I stated before, it would be great if someone who represents the Evangelical's would have the guts to take a stand and speak out about the terrible human rights mistakes that have/are being made as far as the relationship between the church and homosexuals. I am remined of Olsteen's comment about gays being one of G-D's unfortunate blunders or words to that effect, and he is not nearly as far right as Hagee.

I have had experience as a Jew and as a homosexual, so I certainly can relate.
 
I do believe in a "higher being", or "creator" but cannot stand the catholic faith. I was baptisted catholic as an infant, and tried twice to follow their faith. I gave it up the second time after the child abuse scandal. There was always such hatred against certain groups of peoples thoughout the history of this faith, that it convinced me that this cannot be the "true faith" as they claim. The fact that the pope indirectly tried to place the blame on the gay community for the child molestations really pissed me off too! I stay away from all religion these days. Seems most all of them always have to have someone to hate on. These days its the gay community. I tend to take that personal.... I think it will backfire on them someday, the ones that want to "save marriage"??? They are only attempting to "fire up" their shrinking memberships to a common cause, imo.
 
The other day Joy Behar was interviewing Dolly Parton. Dolly's grandfather was a Pentecostal preacher and was not too enamored with her way of dress, cosmetics,and felt she was a "hussy" etc. But she said eventually he became very proud of her especially after she wrote a song about him.

A discussion about gay people ensued and she said that she felt as though G-D wanted us to look for the good in people and love one another for all our good qualities. She said that is how she likes to live her faith.And she loves gay people and feels we should be allowed to marry as we please.

I thought that was a beautiful way to put it. She is a beautiful person inside as well as outside.
 
Gyrafoam, i also watched the Parton interview, as usual Dolly got her point across, re: Rev. Joel Osteen, he is palatable enough, but Dolly said, "as a christian he should not judge others". alr2903

NOT to be a vigilante. NOT to take the law in your own hands - that is anarchy. But to protect your life when and if you are threatened.
