Noticed the water softener running this morning. Called Culligan. They advised to close the bypass valve. That stopped the water from running.

However, they are not coming out for service until the Wednesday after this. Meanwhile no soft water.

Last time I needed service years ago, they came out but didn’t get parts and finally fix it for a couple months.

I dunno.

Meanwhile I know some people detest soft water but I’m the opposite, and after showering I feel sticky and coated with soap.

Certainly life has far worse problems.

But I’ve always been disappointed with Culligan’s slow service.

Seems I hear a lot of things Culligan/service does that shouldn't happen to a top name brand.

Guess they spend all that money on commercials.

That sticky feeling is essentially wax. Congratulations, you're a candle.

Helicaldrive— I detest hard water, as well. Had a Culligan weekly tank exchange service which became progressively less reliable. I was lamenting the service to my landlord and he purchased and installed an OMNIfilter softener for my apartment. No more Culligan problems! I know not every Culligan franchise is crappy, but if you’re not happy with their products or service, I’d check with your local plumbing/heating store (mine is an Ace Hardware) and purchase one from them. They’ll install it.

I had hard water for the better part of two weeks recently and it sucked. The local water has 25 grains of hardness per gallon (or 427 parts per million). The dishwasher performed horribly, showers felt astringent and soap scum/mineral deposits began showing up on the tub, shower surround and faucets. Stains were not fully removed from laundry.

Hope you find a solution soon!

The official city water department quality report for Euless TX (where DFW airport is) listed

total dissolved solids as one part per THOUSAND.

I don't know what it is here in west Ft Worth, different source and different processing, but this is all surface water from lakes/reservoirs and the ground is primarily sand and calcium carbonate with some clay mixed in.

Gotta keep a jug of vinegar handy.

Running water....

Helicaldrive - We had the same issue with ours. Our running water was due to blown seals and it was a quick repair from our local company. Our issue was the result of an increase in water pressure and not really the softener.

I don't know how Culligan works but ours is Rainsoft and our local, I guess, franchise is really good. No complaints here. It's too bad these franchises can give a company that's been around for years a bad name.

Thanks all

Well a Culligan tech called me this morning and said the E2 error code means the motor/piston are jammed, it will need to be rebuilt, and chances are 99% all parts will be on the truck when my service appointment arrives. He said meanwhile I could try unplugging it and plugging it back in, but if that solves the jam it will only work temporarily before it happens again.

Meanwhile the difference is amazing. The soap suds on my washcloth completely poop out halfway through my shower. I never used to clean the shower. I would just dry it out after showering and it always stayed sparkling. Now it’s dull with soap scum. I put 50% more detergent than normal in a load of laundry and it still made no suds at all.

This is nothing of the magnitude of unemployment and not having enough food.

But I miss that water softener!
