Actually,

Europeans don't give a rat's ass about American racial hangups. Obama being of mixed race would not be relevant to any of the Norwegian elite I know. And yes, one of their poets who is involved is an acquaintance.

Now, if Colin Powell had not been used as a tool (and I mean that in the derogatory sense of the word) by the Republicans and became so righteously angry over having been used to tell a lie to the whole planet, he might well have been the first dark-skinned president...a Republican.

Instead of all the conservatives here getting all happy that the US lost the Olympics and running on about how horrible it is that Obama is a)dark skinned and b) a Democrat, why not take a little time and reflect on just why, exactly, your party of choice (I know, I know, no Republicans here, oh no, all conservatives here are far too principled and only vote Republican because they have no other choice...) could come up with nothing better than Sarah Palin and John McCain. Not one of the really brilliant Republicans who might have been good presidential material stood a chance because of this absurd pandering to the know-nothing base. I'd vote for Olympia Snowe in a moment. Or Susan Collins. Or several other Republicans who are all ineligible for nomination due to either not being fake Christians and or having IQs bigger than their shoe size.

That would be a more meaningful discourse than all this attacking America twice in one week. Once, for Obama trying to save the Olympics for his home town and once for us foreigners daring to say something nice about the American President...who just happens to be dark skinned.

It is not the Europeans fault that after eight years of America treating the rest of the world as badly as can be (including those of us NATO partners whose young men and women are dying in Iraq and Afghanistan defending you) the US finally has a president who speaks and writes English. Clearly. Goodness, he's not only written books (tho' he does need longer than Sarah's six weeks:-)) he's even read a book or two.

well....

Now I am saying this as a person who has not live in Europe, but looking from afar, all is not rosy on the racial front in Europe either.

Oh btw I did find this on today's 'Bloomburg' website about the relative values of the dollar versus euro and what they 'should' be based on cost of living etc.:

>Central bank diversification is helping push the relative >worth of the euro and the yen above what differences in >interest rates, cost of living and other data indicate they >should be. The euro is 16 percent more expensive than its >fair value of $1.22, according to economic models used by >Credit Suisse Group AG. Morgan Stanley says the yen is 10 >percent overvalued.

(That being the case panthera it makes Paul Bond's look more attractive to you :) )
