Hello greg & the group, the scans are very cool! Iv'e been out of the loop for awhile but glad to be hear. My aunt gave me permission in the early 70's to use her norge machine,it had a green light up dial with the long stationary lint basket i would wash all day,she had seven kids, and i love the bee sounding motor and the famous shotgun break and it's strong agitation. Who would not want that top of the line model wow thanks. Darren k

Funny how the timers jumped sides from the 1850 to the 1830. That 1850 is mega cool! My aunt's Norge was probably this vintage, but below the 1830... I remember 2 cycles, variable water level and speed selector. This was probably before the "VHQ", right?

VHQ= Very Haute Queen?

oh=> Very High Quality

Wide little puppies. It was my thought years ago that most W&D pair (of the same manufacturer)are/were 54 inches wide.

27+27
25+29,etc.

But we know that is not so.

First time I witnessed a NORGE was the one that came with the "new" house my parents bought. Opened the lid and "BANG" went the spin solenoid. Almost got the %^&* kicked out of me. Was less of an issue when the mother saw that it made such noises on its own, unattended!

Thanks for posting!

VHQ

Peter, these were actually after the VHQ insignia. The VHQ came out in 1965 or no later than 1966--about no more than 2 years after we got our Norge15 12/23/64. I remember walking through Foley's dept. store appliance dept. and seeing the new VHQ Norge with the added programmed cycle buttons which reflected my personal preferences for the programmed cycles with 10 buttons vs. the 8 we had on our DispensoMat washer. I hated the hot/cold temp combination for the W'n'W durable cycle (#5).

I'll take 10!!!!!!

I just ADORE these machines!!! For me, it's a tie for favorite washer of all time with the Unimatic!!! My aunt has one of these, although it's quite a bit newer, it still has that FABULOUS roaring, banging, and clanging action!!! She complains though that it doesn't spin like it used to, she says she has to run the spin cycle twice or the clothes will take forever to dry. I'm not sure if that's a washer issue or the fact that she replaced the matching dryer with the most BOL Whirlpool dryer possible...

Nice Mr. Gansky.

Oh, I just LOVE brochures!!!! Blessings on your head for posting these! Are there any machines you want to see that I might have brochures for???

Hey, do you have any brochures for late 60's Hotpoints???

**BANG** you're dead, he once said

Lucky for the cops that the Norge's aren't around any more, what with the gun-shot like bang of the TUB BRAKE, they'd being answering calls all the time now.

Always thought of Iron-man or some other super hero reaching out to stop the Norge in virtual seconds, if not instantaneously.

Is there another machine that brakes so quickly? Wonder if the brake is a huge powerful clamp?

Quick Norge Story

Once a friend lived in a huge complex with 4 units per bldg. You could go from blgd to bldg easily and spy on the machines. To my utter astonishment, I opened my first Norge and saw a small load of dress socks washing at the 2 lb. level. It's for real. First automatic ever witnessed operating at such a low level, and the now well- known speed and power of the tall tower angel wing that spits. This guy was hooked. That, my friends, was the first new machine I ever bought. How I wish I still had it. Circa, late seventies.

Thanks, Greg--like Mike, for me this will be great bedtime reading, except that he is now fast asleep and dreaming.

"We are Norge Borg. We will assimilate you. Resistance is futile" Star Trek

How cool and fitting the all powerful Borg were named after one of our club's most favorite washing machines.

Here's the progenitor of the spitting angel tower

Ben, the comparable Monkey Wards would have similar buttons too. And better dispensers!! I can tell what all 10 buttons have on them too!

Great looking washer and dryers!
I bet there are many of these still in service!
The washers were work horses!
Great scans Greg. Thanks!
Brent
