Yikes!
It appears that the gas-fired plant was being brought online for the day, and something went wrong. Two people are said to have died at this point, and dozens are injured.
Horrible.

I'm about 45 miles away from it- I heard 5 people were killed and 12 injured- very tragic situation out there.

I hope those suffering will be helped.
Does raise the question, tho' - why on earth should we trust people who build quality down to increase profit with nuclear energy?
The Navy would be a much better choice.

It sort of sounds like they had too many separate sub contractors working there, with lax safety procedures and probably lousy communication between subs.
The term "lowest bid" sort of springs to mind as well...

Ha Ha! We had a hospital just north of here by the name Greater Laurel-Beltsvile Hospital. The staff throught LB should have stood for Lowest Bid.

reminds me of a story regarding a kitchen remodel.
One contractor soaked the ktihcen cabintery in a paint-stripping chemical (read: volative, flammable, dangerous). Another guy on the dhift after the first one chose to use a heat stripper. (like blow-dryer / hair-dryer). *KABOOM*
So sad when accidents are avoidable. Burns are to be feared and avoidance of same revered.
It is especially aggravating to me when say pilots are so busy chatting up stewardesses ("blinded by the bush") that they neglect to do what is necessary to take-off safely. There was a maojor plane crash in nearby Queens (JFK) due to the pursuit of the fertile crescent in exactly such scenario.
Maybe we need more female pilots and renaming the cockpit to the box office.
