Friends....enemies....inbetweens......

I fell in the bathtub on January 21. I finished my shower, screamed, prayed, got up, got dry and dressed, and called 911.
Fell on my right flank, and was worried about the kidney.

Xrays at the ER showed no fractures. Urinalysis was negative.

However, in addition to this "soft tissue damage", I have/had a compression fracture a few years ago..
ER doc, a nice woman who spoke AMERICAN! said that this might irritate the previous injury.

If anyone cares, the bruises were partly inspired by Picasso, and partly by Matisse. (I have an amazing mirror in the bathroom, and YES, there were "safety treads" on the tub. When I have showered since, I have put down a towel for further traction. It is a fiberglass tub, and standard grippy mats DO NOT WORK).

I am in a LOT of pain, on Vicodin, and not doing well.

My other physical things are stable.

Tonight, I was at my friend Linn's. We watched an episode of "Six Feet Under," and I cooked. I made my "Spanish" rice, but was in something close to agony while cooking.
I had to sit down a lot.

By the time I got to my Sunday night discussion group, I was in agony.

I am sorry, but I am in a really rotten, angry mood, and I am going to retreat again.

Calling my doctor's office Tuesday morning, bright and surly.

Lawrence:

First, I'm really sorry this happened to you, and I hope you feel better very soon.

Second, I didn't know Picasso had a Black and Blue Period! ;-)

Seriously, I'm in horror that you hurt yourself.

Lawrence, I am sorry you are still in so much pain, even while on the Big V. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers for healing and hope that you have a successful conversation with your doctor.

Heal us O Lord and we shall be healed.
Save us O Lord and we shall be saved.

Lawrence,

Take care. Sorry for your fall.

It can happen to anyone! About 2 weeks ago I was putting food in the fridge. My poor old 23 year old cat was under my feet and I did not notice until I turned toward the fridge. To stop from stepping on him I moved my foot to the right. I totally lost balance and fell full weight to the floor on my right side, hitting my head on a chair. I was in total shock how hard I hit the floor without a chance to brace myself. I was lucky that I did not have any injury's.

Take care. You will heal soon. Don't get gun shy about taking showers and such. It was just an accident. It can happen to anyone. I am sure that now you will be super careful.

Hope you feel better soon.

Thank you all

Thank you all. Going to bed soon.

Eugene, I told everyone at my Sunday night group about the Vicodin two weeks ago. My guide is a competative runner (no stranger to ortho injuries herself), and has encouraged me to stay on the dosage schedule, q6h, and not try to lengthen times between doses. Thank you for your thoughtful concern.

Now to feed and water Rosa del Gata, and go to bed.

Likely WON'T post tomorrow at all.

Hey Lawrence,

I can relate with what you're feeling! I too fell in a non protected porcelain bathtub during a shower in my Houston home two years ago and broke 6 ribs on my riht side fracturing my wrist and braking my thumb.I had to take 6 weeks off and stay off my feet.I'd lose my breath from the ribs pressing against my lungs.Long time to recover and still have reprocussions.

Try to relax. I took no pain pills because of their side affects.I took 1000 mg of Ibe.worked fine with no side effects.

I feel you pain as well.

A year ago, I fell through the fiberglass carport roof and was caught by a beam on my left lower back. I put off going to the doctor, but I figure I probably cracked a rib of two. I was also worried about the kidney but no blood in urine so I stopped worrying about that. After two weeks I did go to the doctor just to make sure there was nothing seriously wrong.

I figure it will take you a month or two to recover from your fall. I know how painful it is, though. I find Aleve (or generic naproxin) can help a lot.
