These sound great.

But manufacturers right now are scarce and prices are sky-high.

I'm guessing the industry will wait 20 year to re-issue.
When all the gas cooktop users are hooked on electric smoooth-tops and have converted, THEN these will come out again IMHO..LOL

Jon (jetcone) has an induction cooktop in his kitchen and uses it constantly. John Lefever has one and loves it as well. I've found two of them at the Habitat Re-Store here, gave a Kenmore to Jon and kept a GE for myself (don't toss out that black GE Jon, we might need it!) and would love to install one in my kitchen someday. They are so amazing, no excess heat into the room, super easy cleanup - you can cook in a pan on top of newspaper and throw the paper away when finished, a huge timesaver when frying on the stove top. My mother saw mine in action last year when we hooked it up and thought it was as good as pre-sliced bread.

I remember seeing a demonstration of this on one of those old "House of Tomorrow" movies from the fifties. I always wondered why they didn't catch on. They have been out there for quite a while, but have never really entered the market. I know that is the way most soldering guns work too.

Induction tops are big in the restaurant kitchen world. They respond as instantly as gas but are faster and all of the energy is created in the pan so there is no waste heat going out into the kitchen. They have induction elements rated up to 3 kw of power.
