To stink the place up and gum up the works......

A friend won these accessories for my 1990's GE Filter-flo on flea-pay.

Didn't look so bad at this angle. However, I KNEW there would be trouble when the box smelled like a French whore-house.

Fabric Softener

Here are my preferred weaposn agains excessive sudes, especially when running the front-loader.

Gallon jug (4QTS./litres)of the cheap, watery stuff. Kills suds without strong smell or waxy buildup.

The vinegar is an acid tht chemically neutalized the base(alkaline) detergents and bleaches.

In my Frid-Ge-Mmore front-loader, the bleach dispenser goes empties into the first rinse. It gets the pink stuff.

The fabic softener goes into the last rinse. It gets the vinegar.

Bye all.

Fabric softener.

The last sentence should read~~
The fabric softener dispenser goes into the last rinse. It gets the vinegar.

(PS my hands sill stink of softener. LOL)

Most softeners add wax and grease back into the clothes, because modern detergents are TOO effective. Solution? just use less detergent and NO softener, when possible.

Consider yourself lucky - those GE dispensers are a breeze to clean compared with some other brands. The DD WP/KM are nearly impossible to revive if they've been neglected like that - I usually just toss them in the trash and slap on a plain cap. Worse yet is when the dispenser gets so plugged that the softener starts spraying out the top, all over the tub ring and inside the cabinet. I've seen them so bad that it took a paint scraper to remove the dried goo. Curse the butthead that thought they didn't need to come apart for cleaning!

I've seen the pink softener like you have at the stores, didn't it used to come in another color/flavor too? I remember a blue color...

Togs! Glad you got the accessories for your GE. I'd like to think most people would have cleaned that dispenser, as a courtesy, before shipping it. But I guess we here at AW.ORG are just more thoughtful about these things. Congrats, and enjoy the mini-basket. They're fun to watch.

fabric softener

I don't think much of fabric softener, either. When I do use it, it's from a stash of Purex Sta-Puf that I have (5 gallons). The only time I do use softener is in cold weather, and then only in my cotton/poly sweatshirts I have to wear for work.
Not too long ago, at a thrift store, there was a vintage Maytag that had so much "gunk" in the dispenser cup that you couldn't have put more than a tablespoon of softener in it. Of course, nosey me had to take the cup out and look at the filter....even worse.....
