Now that Unilever sold it's US Detergents biz...

Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

It's a shame to see it go. I personally believe that Sun detergent products are pretty ghetto. I did, however, see a lady with big hair and a fancy-looking leather jacket buying some Liquid Sun Detergent a couple of nights ago at Wal-Mart. She gave me a funny look as I was glaring into her basket as she walked by with that stuff in there! Perhaps she felt ashamed of putting that in her car for everyone to see?

Now would be a great opportunity for Henkel to step up and start putting some decent products on the shelves (e.g. Persil). Now that we have so many "HE" machines on the market today, I think they could do quite well! Though many tried-and-true P&G users would probably not even consider buying anything other than their beloved Tide HE - even though they are walking around with rashes due to unrinsed detergents in their under things.

Sun Detergents

If I can recall right the fact is that Sun was making detergents and fabric softeners for Unilever for quite some time now. So this makes sense for them to snag the laundry care business from Unilever.

Maybe the lady at Wal-Mart was buying the Sun detergent for ther staff.
I buy Sun liquid dishwashing detergent for the office, because the stupid peeps here will squirt a whole sinks worth to wash one plate. We have a dishwasher with Cascade complete, but they are to lazy to push the start button; I count myself lucky that they at least run the plate under water then put it in the draining board.

I go in and put them in the dishwasher in the envening so they get a good scalding. You know it is actually true the more education some people have the stupider they become.

You know it is actually true the more education some people

I have a theory about that. I think the more education a person has, the only way to store it all in their brain is to make room for it by deleting some of the common sense routines.

Case in point. I know a lot of people with a variety of educational backrounds. It seems that the people with PhD's are usually the strangest of them all. They do things that common sense would tell them not to do. They march to the beat of a different drummer, or are one step out of touch with reality.

I have tried a few Sun products over the last year out of curiosity. They're cheap, so I figured if they aren't great performers, I'd save it for washing the car wash towels and it won't be a big loss. As it turns out, the Sun detergent with cuddlesoft softener whitenes whites better than All Small and Mighty with bleach. I was more than surprised at its performance actually, and for less than $2 for a bottle at Dollar General, it's a deal. I still like Tide and Cheer, especially in powder, but I wouldn't have a problem using Sun for everyday laundry.

Unilever's UK Detergents Biz is safe...

Unilever sold it's North American Laundry Division to Huish, creating Sun Products Corp. The brands in this division is sold in the US, Canada and Puerto Rico. The brands included in the sale are:

All
Surf
Wisk
Snuggle
Sunlight

I think the reason why Uni left the US detergent battle, was due to the fact that they weren't innovative enough. Yes, they were the first major detergent manufacturer to roll out a concentrate (All Small & Mighty), but they didn't bring out the other innovations: Gel Tablets, Capsules and Pearls. I would have bought them if they did. I used Wisk Tablets from the time they rolled out to when they were discontinued. They were the best thing I've used in years. They never created suds like Tide Rapid Action Tablets and they cleaned well.

Tablets?

How do you control the detergent dosage using tablets? What load size and soil level does a company make a tablet to work with? I mean If I have a small load would I still use the same size tablet? Not sure I like the tablet idea...kind of like a DW tab..uncontrollable dosing.

The other thing Unilever did not do was release the same product in more than 6 scents. Seems that's about all P&G does anymore. It takes up shelf space but isn't really anything new and performs no better than the same stuff under a different scent.

Does Unilever sell All Small and Mighty in the UK or other countries? If so can they continue to make it and sell it if another company is now making it and has the naming rights?

Small & Mighty

Unilever owns the global rights to Small & Mighty. Sun will probably license the name for All. Unilever makes Surf and Persil Small & Mighty, and will continue to do so.

UNILEVER owns:
Surf (excluding US)
Persil
Omo
Sunil
Radiant
Breeze

SUN owns:
Sunlight (Canada)
Wisk (US & Canada)
Surf (US & Canada)
All (US only)
Snuggle (US & Canada)
