So I have been buying online lately, never had any problems. Last month, a package from Macy's was lost by UPS. According to their tracking number the package had been delivered, left on my front porch.
I never saw it...I reported the lost package to both Macy's and UPS.
Macy's was helpful, UPS not.
That one was resolved.
On 12/6 I won a Eureka Express canister from ebay, and as of this morning it had still not arrived, so I decided to send the seller a little email and see if it had been shipped yet. Looking at the ebay listing I see a "track shipment" button which led me to a UPS tracking number.
The tracking number said the package had been delivered 12/19 at 1:03pm and left on the front porch.
There was no package when I got home from work.
For the 2nd time in a month, something has vanished off my porch in broad daylight.
I got upset, and threw a fit at UPS, namely because they do nothing, their standard line is "you'll have to contact the shipper..."
I went postal and demanded some service today, as the paying customer I wanted something more than "I'm Sorry"
it also really bothers me that UPS just drops stuff with no signature required, and even more disturbs me that there are people who would swipe a package from someone without even knowing whats inside.
Makes me wonder what else is missing...

I've not lost anything ... yet ... but it irritates me when some delivery outfits leave things on my front door, which faces a busy county road, instead of on the back patio which would be completely out-of-sight. The USPS leaves small packages that don't fit in the mailbox on the patio, but the others are too stoopid or lazy to make the walk 'round back.

Signatures are not required on a residential address. The reason? Most people are not home during the day anymore.
The shipper can request that a signature be required, however then the driver will not leave the package without a signature.

I suspect someone may be stealing the packages from your porch. Can you have your packages delivered to another address where someone is home during the day?

Every package is insured for max of $100.00, even if the package was not insured. However, as you were told by UPS, the shipper must start the claim.

Rather than just being so upset, you may as well contact the shipper and have them start the claim. If you do not contact the shipper and request that he start a claim, UPS will never be able do anything for you. Shipping companies have the same policy on this situation. All the rules are pretty much standard policy.

I'm a BIG eBayer as well (probably more than I should be, ha!), and having received many packages over the years, I've found that USPS is the best as far as delivery is concerned. On a few occasions when something arrived while we were out of town, they either did not drop the package off, or later saw that no one had come to collect it and picked it up again. They put a slip in the mailbox to let us know that we missed them and to go by and pick up the package.

While UPS and FedEx have the benefit of better tracking, both have equal disadvantages. I've NEVER signed for anything on UPS, and I usually catch them at the exact time they drop it off. A few FedEx packages I did sign for, but I can count on one hand the number of times I had to do that. On most occasions they just drop it off and ring the doorbell, regardless of whether or not anyone is home. No one will mess with anyone's packages where I live, but what about in a larger area where they ARE more prone to theft? It just doesn't make sense...

fuming here STILL!!

I am just astounded at UPS's lack of concern for stuff...I will never ship anything UPS ever again!!
I am going to change the address so stuff ships here to work instead. That way someone will be around to recieve it.

What's funny is I talked to my parents, and they had been at my house to let Jack out at noon. They must have just missed the UPS man by minutes!

I've contacted everyone who needs to be contacted, including the shipper and PayPal. Now I just wait.
Why the heck would someone just walk up and swipe a box off someone's porch without knowing whats inside??? Do people just steal stuff for sport?

I'm kinda freaking out now, mainly because of the stuff thats still out... one of which is a Kirby Ultimate G Diamond Edition, being shipped UPS. If that gets stolen I'll S**T!!!
Thank God my Secret Santa present was spared!

Bobby: Thanks, the POD definately brightens my day, now take those racks out and let me crawl in...put me out of my misery please!

What i'd like to know is WHO exactly are your neighbors?

Mine watch my propery like a hawk and question everyone who goes near it. G-d bless old retired yentas!

Try this one out for size.

When I bought my house I replaced all the exterior door and storm/screen doors.

The old ones were just fine for 20 or 30 years. Some package delivery service put some goodies between the house door and the screen door on a windy stormy rainy day, leaving the sstorm /screen door partially open. The brand new (two-week) old storm door was ripped off the hinges. Child,it was banging in the wind more than a 42nd Street ho on her best day.

Needless to say, a few words came out of my mouth I didn't even know I knew in a plethora of languages.

Sorry to hear about that Jeff!

Man, Jeff, I feel your pain. All day long at work I deal with processing claims and contacting vendor's about shipping issues - whether it be UPS or a different carrier. I wonder if the stuff was stolen too, but who knows. Our word against the UPS computated delivery time.

I expect you to stay home when the Kirby shows up, with Camo on and an oozie in hand, waiting in the bushes for the brown truck to head down your lane ... hehehe

some good news...

parents called and said a package arrived while they were walking Jack....
Looks like the Kirby has arrived safe and sound!

I am majorly bummed about the loss of the Eureka though, I really wanted that one!

It's not true

That the shipper has to start the claim with UPS. I was the recipient of a damaged mixmaster purchased on Ebay. The seller was uncooperative & incompetent. She suggested I make a claim with UPS, so I did. UPS paid the purchase price of the mixer + shipping cost back to the seller (even though it was her shoddy packaging that caused the damage), who then sent it back to me. But I started the claim.

I spoke too soon about USPS. They left a small package at the front door today, wrapped in an inflated plastic bag (rain today). That sucks, being as when I moved two years ago, there was a sort of 'welcome' card left outlining USPS services and requesting the names of all individuals who will be receiving mail at this address, along with a choice of what they are to do with packages that won't fit in the mailbox, which I instructed "leave on back patio."

MY old mailman was very nice..Our new one is a total B**ch... Ughh..But we've never had anything stolen, that was left by UPS or Fed Ex... I have a po box now and we don't have mail carriers in the actual city of montreat (mind you i live on the outskirts of montreat in another town, but my phyiscal address is the post office in montreat as the insurance rates go up 25% to live in the town i live...SO i live at the post office otta my box)
Bummer on the vac

Poor service!

Our mailman is great! And most considerate as well. BUT, the service in the stores where I live are terrible! Most of them have less than adequate salespersons to begin with. They act as if you are bothering them! They are usually way too busy chatting on the telephone, talking with the other one or two salespersons, and deciding on lunch plans. Heaven forbid, if you ask them to help you find something. That usually results in huffing and puffing, sour looks and a snooty, "well it is right here" reply. My sister and I were in a Victoria's Secret store recently and asked one of the sales girls if there were any sales going on. She looked us up and down, sneered, and in her best snotty voice informed us that "Nope, we don't have sales right now." Her nose was up so high we thought she might acquire an accute case of frost bite. It was almost funny. My, how things have changed!

I depend on the UPS or USPS postmen leaving packages in my garage or behind one of the bushes on the front porch. This is a must for me since I am asleep at those times they come by.Some delivories REQUIRE an adult sgnature before they can leave the item-Vita Mix does this-Why I don't know.If you were to order ammunition or other fiream related supplies an adult signature is required.I have also had to sign for reloading supplies--so with my work hours-I buy these things locally. In terms of service-the UPS folks are pretty good here-both UPS and USPS postmen are nice-but USPS seems to have the best "package smashers".
