Number of Rinses Indesit IWD5123

Hi, We have a Indesit which we accquired last week. This was not my choice to get this machine but its what we have and I have the AEG in storage until I get my flat sorted and I will take on the AEG until its no longer working (it keeps freezing and jumping into a spin on occasions)

The Indesit only does 2 rinse cycles as opposed to the 3 we are used to the old Indesit from 1996 and the AEG. Are the 2 rinse cycles enough and is it just Indesit-company machines that do 2 rinses only? I cant remember now but I think the Candy machine I had in Dubai was the same. Thanks

Most current machines do only two rinses in cotton cycles.
My Whirlpool does the same, with insufficient results, the Candy at my parents does 2 or 3 rinses according to load and the results are amazing. I only used water plus (5 deep rinses) once but found it unnecessary.

If the machines defaults to two rinses they should be all that's needed until proven different. If, washing very absorbent loads, you feel you need an additional rinse, simply program the machine for it!

My Miele does 2 rinses on the cottons and minimum iron cycles, unless I select water plus or it senses excess suds in the rinses - then it will do 3

My Miele

does 2 rinses on cottons 60deg, 3 rinses if a temp lower than 60 deg is selected. It will also add an extra rinse if a spin speed below 800rpm is selected.

Min iron does two rinses, 3 if I select water plus.

Dark Garments and Jeans programmes use 3 rinses.

... there are 3 as standard. I can select Rinse plus which ups the rinses to 4.

It really depends on your feeling

Well, how many rinses are enough is upto how you feel, do you like clothes, or your skin react on clothes

If you ask me personally, 2high water level rinses on my GO510 sometines is, sometimes isn't enough, depending on detergent, and how many of it I've put in. I think your Candy in Dubai might have had the same system, although not quite sure.

However my new Candy GrandOPlus is using sensors, and other facts in the wash, so if the load is less than 40% it does 2 rinses normally, if load is bigger than 40% it does 3 rinses normally, of course changes are made due to sudslocks, extremely dirty water, or water+ button selected

When I used to have Aqualtis, cotton rinses (2) were fine for me, however synthetic and all others (slow tumble rinses) were ridiculous

on my hoover, 2 rinses on rapid 14 and 3 on rapid 30 and 44..
synthetics is 4 rinses and cottons is 4 too

My Dreamspace will also do two rinses as a default. Three with Intensive Rinse and four with Sensitive Skin selected. It all largely depends on the system used for rinsing. The Dreamspace spins and sprays the load at the beginning of each rinse so everything wets down fairly quickly. The AEG, on the other hand, did a poor job getting a full load saturated - since it didn't have the Jet System.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I didn't realise that more & more machiness are adopting the 2 rinse only system but I guess things have changed in the 9 years since when we bought the AEG. We are looking to change the Indesit IWD5123 5kg to something else as its not the rinses that is the issue but the machine is very light and keep moving about and despite all the feet adjusting it keeps shaking badly with no stability so we are looking to change within the 28 days return policy.

Nrones, I think the Candy had the sensor system in it as it seemed to behave differently everytime but unfortunataly the machine had a fault so sometimes it wouldn't come on and the machine would just go on and on sometimes causing me to have to go and switch it off and restart the machine again. I have taken a look at the new Candy Evo machine vidoes & seen one in shop and have to say I really like the wash action with the Mix Power Wash System.

Logixx, My AEG was poor on rinsing as well even though it did 3 rinses with the water jet spraying the load all the time as sometimes the machine just didn't take enough water into the drum! It was below the drum level and the clothes only received water via the water jet. But this machine overall is my favourite one and I want it back in but worried its not safe to keep using :-(

Zanussi Rinses

Our 2007 Essential (ZWF14170W), which is like the 14070W but with a seperate dial for the temperature control (see video), does 3 rinses on all cycles as far as i remember. It's currently in the garage as the house weve moved to has an older Zanussi Washer Dryer in place.

We mostly used Cotton cycles (60 & 40) & on them it did 3 rinses as standard but pressing Extra Rinse increased this to 5 rinses.

The Extra Rinse button can be pointless in some situations though. The machine has some sort of rinse sensor (possibly an interpretation of Rinse Sensor Injection from the 90s Jetsystems) whereby if it detects a high-absorbancy load like towels, the 3 rinses are deep (ie water covers the base of the door glass as per the video). If not, the 3 rinses are shallow. However, pressing the Extra Rinse will make all 5 rinses shallow regardless. Therefore if you have a load of towels in the machine it's better to leave Extra Rinse off & let it do 3 good rinses, whereas for sheets that don't absorb much you can press Extra Rinse and it makes the 3 standard shallow rinses into 5 shallow ones! Hope that makes sence?!

It always seemed a daft setup to me & is one thing i don't like about the machine (along with lack of progress indicators), but if you'd like a new machine with 3 rinses then i'd imagine the latest Zanussi's are pretty much the same - particularly the Jetsystems which appear to have changed less than the lower spec machines.

My Zanussi FJD1266W does three short rinses (I think) and if you turn on Super Rinse, it makes the rinses longer.

I think the Zanussi is the best bet and its what I wanted in the first place but the advisor advised they were out of stock so the other chose this machine. I am trying to get rid of it and cannot get the Zanussi until the Indesit has been sold.

The machine just vibrates on the spin cycles and a couple of times it has moved. I have levelled out the feet etc and it still shakes violently on the spins and then the detergent dispenser will pop out! LOL. Its on the Youtube page. John Lewis advise that its due to the lightweight construction we are going to get some vibration.

Hi Aeg03... I'm actually surprised to see that you of all people finished up with an Indesit

I appreciate the facts that these particular models shake a lot during spin but I still can't share the advisor's view about it being lightweight: I've had to move my ex Indesit washer dryer form time to time and I can assure you that it's as heavy as any other machine (if not heavier as it's a dryer too)... but it still shakes like there's no tomorrow especially when it lets an unbalanced load into spin.

Anyway, once I'm here, I might as well stick to the topic of this thread... number of rinses on modern machines... yeah... 2 seems the norm! My Hoover does 3 rinses as standard on synthetics and for 80% of times it does 3 rinses on cottons too, unless it has a very small load in (like 1 kilo) then it does only 2. However, the same identical machine as mine was revised after a few years... in 2006 to be exact, and it was replaced by other models which were exactly the same cosmetically but they were programmed to carry out only 2 rinses (with higher water level) instead of 3. Having said that... they would still rinse 3 times as required if they sensed too much foam, instead my older model just enhances the water level of each rinse.

Have you got an extra rinse facility on the Indesit? If you have, that would give you the 3rd rinse but also rise the water level on all.

My new Hotpoint ultima (of the same family of course)weighs an absolute ton and hardly moves and I'm on a 3rd floor flat! Occasionally it has a wobble but not often.

2 rinses are standard on this machine. But I can do up to 5 but tbh they are very deep most of the time and the lower rinses use dual tumbling it rinses brilliantly and I am the fussiest person when it comes to rinsing. My last zanussi did 3 shallow rinses with no option of an extra rinse. It was a zwf12070g1 like liams minus the temp control. It did slightly deeper rinsing with big loads or towel loads but it static filled which wound me up something chronic as it would just soak it all up and not refill! Rarely it did! The fact the bearings began to go after 2 years was very disappointing. I had an aeg like yours and countless zanussis as it was my favourite brand but I'm unconvinced I would buy another at this stage.

My LG did 3 rinses the highest it filled was the rim of the drum but it had a very powerful jet which made it rinse fantastically. That could could do up to 5 and a warm rinse could be selected. Warm clothes at the end was very bizarre but very effective!

I'm afraid that this machine does not have an extra rinse function so I will need to select a seperate rinse to if I wasn't happy with it. The choice of machine wasn't my choice but now seeing the feedback on the forum has reassured me for the timebeing, the machine has fairly high water levels on rinses.

The Indesit has the same level on the rinses as in your picture. As you probably know, it starts with a low level tumbling slowly, then fills a bit more continuing the slow tumbles and then fills for a final time with faster tumbles.

The current models don't do the slow tumbles on the cotton rinses anymore it tumbles fast as soon as it fills!

They are some of the better rinsing machines out there currently
