The political correctness

police attack again.

The reason we are stuck with christianist republican politicians is because the democrats made white, middle-class men feel unwelcome in the 70's and 80's.

The same mentality persists in this whole PC nonsense. Heterosexual men like to look at skimpily clad young women. Heck, if they'd open the same place with hunky young men, not one of these hysterical battle-axes would say a word.

Hell, I am as queer as a lilac colored three dollar bill can get - but I'd rather be served (not serviced, Steve - I know you will read this eventually) - by an attractive young woman who smiles at me than by one of these politically correct old battle axes who resent me for being a man.

In fact, when I am in the 'States over Christmas, I am going to look up a gay couple living around the corner of the place and go there myself. Don't know what a gay vegetarian will find to eat there, but figure the solidarity is needed. Maybe this could be the way to finally win over some of those men's votes to our side: We support their desire to be served by attractive young women and they vote human rights for us.

Down off my soap-box. Regularly scheduled programming may now continue.

I was just at

Heart Attack Grill's website, and found it extremely funny.

And I've actually had and survived a heart attack!
(July 2003).

If I had the franchise fee, I would open one of these in the blink of an eye (or sooner!)

I think it would be a big hit here in a college town.

The real nurses need to lighten the heck up.

Keven... you could drink. Either soda or beer. You probably won't have the fries because of the lard.

I bet the fries are earthshakingly awesome.

There seemed to be a few gaps in the menu, as far as I am concerned. No, not salad, or even hot vegetables. The gaps were chili and dessert. There should be both.

Actually read that article before when doing some online research on nursing/nurses, and am here to tell you, NO, nurses do not need to "get a life" but the public needs to start respecting the nursing profession.

From someone who had to endure all the jokes, snide/off colour remarks, and so forth when working in nursing/attending nursing school, the jokes are not funny. Sadly in my day nurses still wore whites and some were also required to wear the dreaded cap when on duty thus there was no escaping all sorts of remarks on one's way to and from work. Everything from "nursey, nursey I need an angel of mercy", catcalls from some idiot (as he fakes a heart attack and falls in your path), to some rather disgusting comments normally reserved for women on the game. Nurses were assumed to be up for it any time any where, after all they BATHE and TOUCH naked men, (something no decent woman is supposed to do except her husband, and even then).

Ever since Florence Nightinggale "cleaned up" and founded the modern nursing profession, nurses have had to fight the various sterotypes/fantasies projected onto them by society, mostly males. Female nurses are either battle-axes, trollops, or angels of mercy. Male nurses are supposed to be either gay and or or just couldn't cut medical school and ended up "just a nurse".

It is no wonder North America/Europe, are facing vast shortages of nurses. Women have other career options and who wants to work in a profession saddled with so much baggage. Ask your average person what a nurse does and they simply cannot tell you. Most think they are some sort of glorfied maid that comes with the hospital bed and are to be ordered about, plump pillows or are there to shove something up/down somewhere or other equally unpleasant things.

Everyone thinks it is ok to take pot-shots at nurses, until they need one, then it is a different story. A PBS special on aging in the United States quoted a federal study which states that unless one has on average four daughters, one is likely to require skilled nursing care as one ages, either at home or in a nursing home. By the year 2030 the United States will have the highest population of persons over 65 (indeed 85) than at anytime in it's history. Someone is going to have to provide care for those seniors, not to mention caring for the younger members of society. Long as nurses/the nursing profession is degraded women and men will choose other careers and the shortages will continue.

Countries without shortages of nurses? Well they tend to be places with pretty traditional roles for women. Asian countries (ever wonder why there are so many Philippine nurses in the United States?), India, and many South American countries such as Mexico. There you still can find armies of nurses in white uniforms and caps. All low paid and working in some cases under the same condition US nurses rebelled against. In those countries where females have limited access to "male" professions, nursing and other pink collar jobs are good as one is going to get.

So go ahead, smirk all you want at the "sexy" nurses, just keep that smile on your face when you are in hospital, flat on your back and ringing that call bell and wondering where all the nurses are.

aaa, I think,

Sure, there are men who are jerks and who don't value the work nurses do. I know it was the nurses who kept my folks alive and comfortable last year after that horrid accident.
But that is not the problem here, at least from my perspective.
Men and women are different in what turns them on.
We see it in all the anguished dear Abbey letters from women beginning: "I just found porno- on my husband's, fiancées,son's, male-roomate's, etc computer. How can he be an upstanding member of our christianist church, upstanding father, upstanding blah blah blah and look at that..."
Or my favorite embarrassment as a young teen: we were sitting around the campfire eating marshmallows with melted chocolate...mine was so good, so fantastically good...I ended up cumming in my pants.
Women, as far as I can tell, have a disconnect between their sense of humor and sex. For them, sex is sex and everything else isn't.
Heterosexual men find women in nurse's uniforms sexually stimulating. I don't, but hey - I don't hear women screaming "exploitation" about the opening scene in Magnum, P.I. where Tom Selleck came out onto the beach.
Nurses deserve more professional respect than they get, stipulated. Heterosexual men should show professional women more respect. Stipulated.
But you don't get more milk by beating a cow and the last way to get a heterosexual man to respect women is by telling him he has to abandon his sexuality and react to stimuli like women do.

Diff'rent Strokes

I'm also as gay as a three-dollar bill, but I kinda like the idea of the ladies in white servicing my hunger (literally). And that quadruple-decker burger is worth some TCL in the CCU.
Now, let's talk about an eatery where hunky firefighters in uniform serve a four-alarm chili. Pepcid, anyone?

Hey Eugene - I'm sure the owner's could work something out with the National Society of French Maids - maybe designate Wednesday's as 'their day'? I don't think it would be an issue finding outfits locally there in Phoenix.

Very interesting place - looks to be quite a bit more fun than the usual Hooters variety. The restaurant's website has quite a bit of information about the accusations they have received for certain groups in AZ, and the responses from customers, etc. I found it very interesting when the owner mentioned that he pays the employee's very well, opposed to other places that get away with paying the wait staff next to nothing.

While it is a bit overboard, in the end, we all have the choice to, or not to walk through the front door.

I worked for a time as a waiter at an absolutely ridiculous restaurant in Iowa City where we wore various costumes (soldier, sailor, bobbysoxer, zoot-suiter, etc). Once an hour we had to get up on the tables and do a stupid dance to songs like "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy". It was embarassing and annoying, but no one from the American Legion or National Federation of Bobbysoxers and Zoot-suiters complained.

With that said, nurses do get a bum rap. I freely admit that I am not smart enough to do what they do, and I think they deserve every penney they make. When you're in the hospital, they are the true front line, and the best ones carry their burden with grace and class.

If I ran that restaurant, I'd have the nurses wear the tradtitional uniform with the white oxfords, white hose, long white dress, blue cape and (of course) the cap. But something tells me that I wouldn't be in business for very long :-)

flip the coin.........hello double standard

While I am often amused by ladies at the office, when male Beefcake jokes and pics are e-mailed around. I am not really offended, HOWEVER, if I worked in a predominantly Male office and passed around admittedly, stupidly, a female "cheesecake" picture, comic. I have a feeling I might be in human resources before the end of the day. Not that I am offended by beefcake, but is it not, the same thing in reverse?. something to think about heh? Trust me while nurses are Caring compassionate, dedicated folks, If you think we find a patient appealing, you might want to rethink your thought process. We have LIVES, and are not interested in extra curricular activity with a patient, Professionalism = Another day at work, Stay up all night caring for the infirm, on a 12 hr shift, short staffed and then make up your own mind, is this funny? Afraid not.

I heard about this on TV eariler last year. My only thought: Some one is trying to sell food with sex.. Yeah nurses need to be respected.. I too am as queer as a 3 dollar bill, and i find it offensive my self..I don't want to see scantly clad women servng me food... Same with a man, whent to a place in Atlanta that served people with guys in short shorts and a bow tie and shoes and was rather appaled... People need to be dressed and look nice at work, unless you are a Whore, Escort, Stripper or Porn Star..Than that might differ..

Sex sells and straight men like T and A (Tits and A**) so fine they have Hooters and Heart Attack Grill.. Just means i don't eat there...

I have a friend who is an operating dominatrix and her sister is a nurse in a well-known hospital and I cannot WAIT to show them this, so they can both collapse in peals of laughter!

Or, sadly, in the case of the sister, just collapse from exhaustion..:(

I believe that most nurses are largely unconcerned about their standing outside the profession....it's from WITHIN, particularly the way they are treated by administrators, some doctors, and their lack of recognition and contribution as boots on the ground within the hospitals themselves, that's the beef these days.

They have to participate in America's "wellness industry" from inside, yet remain apart from its nightmarish aspects, in order to survive.

Well you know what they say.

A girl's best friends are her legs. And when you are self-employed and first starting out in a small business, between your friends you make a living.

Aside from a Naughty Nurse fantacy that men have, whenever I take my father to the hospital(which is often, as he is 81 and his doctor's is right next to the Hospital, I cannot overcome my amazation(word?)of the 200 lb nurses(women),aides in cartoon pajamas, and scrub nurses in green gowns outside smoking after probably a grueling lung transplant or an angioplasty! I have never seen fatter people than those that work in the hospital,or health care professions, and they have all of the information, much more than we do! I am no skinny minnie, but the lady who ex rayed me last year when I broke a rib was about 200 pounds and 5'2, laying down and standing up. She told me that she had to back up the ex ray because I had more than 1/2 inch of skin/flesh over my ribs. If they had to ex-ray her, they would have to back it up to L.A. What is it with these fit doctors and these incredibly overweight health care workers who smoke and look like walking heart attacks?

Please-

Make no mistake... I am enormously, extremely, totally in awe of real nurses, nurses aides, and "patient care assistants." (Which is a lousy attept to save money on the backs of patients and their insurance carriers!)

However... I just find this restaurant concept amusing.

nurses, fire-fighters, police, teachers

Are always underpaid and way overworked. And underappreciated.
I have great respect for these people.
I still find the hunky firefighters of Western Australia and their calender every year sexy; I still think the political correctness fascists are destroying everything which they originally started out to save.
There is a wonderful Calvin & Hobbes cartoon where Calvin and Susi are having a discussion. Calvin points out that adult men still have their toys. Susi thinks for a second then says: I guess girls actually mature as they grow up.
And that, my dahlinks, pretty much says it all. Somewhere along the line, girls become adults. A very few manage to keep a sense of humor. Boys turn into men, a much smaller number become adult.
Isn't it wonderful that we can all get so upset about a bit of T&A - it's not like there are any other problems in the world. Or the healthcare system.

I don't think lard is half as unhealthy as partially hydrogenated vegetable oil.

Sometimes the best foods are the ones that are minimally processed, and prepared the old fashioned way.

And who can object to a little extra milk in their coffee?

:-)

tee-hee

I'm teaching English for Life Sciences Monday mornings this semester. Several of my students are nurses doing pre-med. They already know the material, but since it is "req." they come anyway.
One of my favorites is about my size - 6'2", built and furry from top to bottom. Looks more like security from the nut-house then the child's intensive care nurse he is.
He brought in an article on this restaurant from a German magazine. In his mind, Northern Colorado where I grew up and this place in Arizona must be about 20 minutes drive apart.
Asked what I thought. Forgetting my lapel mike was on, I looked at the picture of a rather attractive and very stacked young "nurse", gave him the top-to-bottom and all the way back up one-over and said: Well, you've got the legs for it, but I think she's got you beat in the other department...
Roaring laughter from the class.
Sheepish smile from him (thank goodness, we're about the same weight, but his is muscle) and our day started well.
I told him after class about the controversy on our site and he just laughed. The double-moral of the Ami's, he would never understand.
Oh, and did I really think he had nice legs?
Have a great Monday folks!

he's in his late twenties

Nurses over here get even less respect than in the US, by the way. They have more medical responsibility and less pay.
My student is 28, not that anyone thinks I'm flirting with teen-agers. German men don't usually start university until they're 20 or 21. That way they can get their obligatory civil service in.
Women are exempt - and if they do a "voluntary" year, they don't get nearly all the goodies for it that the men do.
Go figure.
