Decals Decals Decals

Isn't that hilarious? My mother's cousin had decals on her mid-60's BOL washer and dryer, too. Hers were orange and yellow flower bunches. On the front, sides and even the top of the dryer. When she replaced the WP set in the early eighties with a set of Kenmores, I asked if she was going to do a decal job on them and she said she'd had enough flowers.

My sister had that washer....

<span style="font-family: verdana,geneva;">....sans the decal of course.</span>

<span style="font-family: verdana, geneva;">She had it for years and sold it when I talked her into going to a front loader.</span>

Those decals must have been a feature in some popular magazine of the day... "Glamourize your appliances with decals"

When I got my '68 Viking portable dishwasher, it had some 'flower' motifs stuck on to it.   The good news is that they usually can be removed easily and should not damage the cabinet finish (I used warm water and household cleaner to soften the ones on the Viking and they just lifted right off).    You'll be left with an unfaded section of the original finish, though!

I think the decal is so cool its shows a time in history when americana was going thur the hippy sixtys…there are a few like this lots with plain paint.. don't do it its like refinishing a 17th century hand painted weather vane…you destroy it…stop painting and start wraping them in gold or crome...

Whirlpool had a set of hippy-dippy flowery stickers that gave energy saving tips.  From laundry to freezer, you could save energy and money with Whirlpool.

I saw a set of these decals at a sale last week - a pink lamb and a baby blue birdie about 12"x8".  Almost got them, but at $10 each I figured it was a waste since I'd never use them.

Decals were popular on old furniture you'd painted in the garage for the new baby's nursery - as shown in the Better Homes and Gardens 100 tips for fast & easy decorating :-)
