How many weeks average pay did it take to buy a Bendix in 1951 compared to a Fisher and Paykel in 1999? If the answer if more than 5 times (60y/12y=5) the number of weeks to purchase the Fisher and Paykel 1999, then the Fisher and Paykel was a better purchase.

60 years on a Bendix pump with no repairs is fantastic!
Hey Jon, several years ago you asked me to call you regards to questions on an F&P washer that your sister had bought. How's she doing with it? Or has it been replaced by now? Just wondering ...
Here's a pic of the culprit. Toy-looking little thing. Made in France. It was under water for about 12 hrs during a flash flood in Nov 2004, still worked after.

I put off ordering the new pump for a while, in case Sears had the best price on anything I needed for the Catalyst dryer.
I thought F&P parts are hard to get??
Placed the order online Monday 9/12/2011 @ 5:30 PM.
Item received on WEDNESDAY 9/14/2011 at 1:00 PM. Sent from a warehouse location in Dallas. Standard shipping (although it was an outrageous $11), not 2nd-day or overnight.
The impeller is different, supposed to run a bit quieter, I believe.
This is the replacement listed for GWL08, although it's not the newest pump design that includes a fuse to be added on one of the pump wires to protect the control board (which would also work on GWL08).
A shipping confirm e-mail arrived from Sears a couple mins ago. LOL.

Way to go with the pump issue . . .

The F&P dish drawers are working beautifully, also.

Well ... damnit.
Turns out to be the wrong pump, by one digit. 420324P is 230v/50hz for non-US power. Correct item is 420325P. The parts diagram @ Sears for GWL08 lists the wrong item. I didn't cross-reference it against the docs I've gathered via scouring online. Duhh. And even more duhhhh, I didn't run the new pump "dry" before putting water into the machine.
Must call Sears to get an RMA but they're pretty nice to deal with. There's a "click to call" function on the site which brings up a window to enter my phone number for THEM to call ME. Phone rang within seconds before I could get the number submitted, so it apparently was picked up automatically from my customer profile.
Anyway ... here's a pic of the bayonet mounting bracket. No tools needed to change the pump.
Wrong new pump. It hums a little but can't run at 120v.

And yes John my 1958 Duomatic has the orignal pump and it does 4 loads a week!
It has new oil and new oil seals in the tranny. And a new belt. And a new drain hose. And new water feed hoses. Still the original condenser hose to the condenser spray and OH - did I mention it does 4 loads a week??!!

Just out of interest - why on Earth would Sears in the 110v USofA carry a 240v pump for a FP washer?
Let's hope they have stock of the correct pump.

My reasoning goes like this.
1) Purchased from original owner in Syracuse a 1958 Bendix Duo, she raised 4 children with one washer, she was put in a Nursing home 4 years before I got there. The machine was still hooked up with detergent and bleach on top and it was the ONLY machine in the house.
2) The pump on the Bendix is a factory original not one of those WESTWOODS' you keep trying to sell as Bendix! <span style="white-space: pre;"> </span>
<span style="white-space: pre;">3</span>) If the pump was a replacement then it had to have been done in the early 60's. The door boot was factory replacement, is gray and is still on the machine, the boot could only have been replaced in the 1960's. So the latest the pump could be is 1960's.
So if you want to nit pic then the pump has run almost 50 years not 60.
