I sent the following complaint to CBS News:<blockquote>On the page for Steve Hartman Reports: Assignment America, the description for the voting choice of Vacuum Collector is "As a kid, you may have collected coins or baseball cards. But 12-year-old Kyle Krichbaum collects …vacuum cleaners. He's got more than 100 uprights. Is he tidy or troubled? Send Steve to meet him."
I find the line "Is he tidy or troubled" to be highly offensive. I ask that you remove the sentence, it does not need to be there. A newspaper is out-of-line in effectively passing judgment with that inflammatory comment. I personally do not collect vacuums, but I am involved with a group that collects washing machines. These hobbies are unusual but certainly the individuals involved are no more "mentally" or "emotionally" troubled than people who collect model trains or postage stamps or a particular brand/model of automobile.<blockquote>
