Today is the cooking frenzy for our annual family reunion tomorrow, and I decided to make oatmeal pies, and thought you guys might like the recipe.

Oatmeal Pie
1 unbaked pie shell
1 1/4 cup oatmeal
3 eggs
2 Tbsp melted butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cupe dark corn syrup
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1 tsp vanilla
1/8 tsp cinnamon
Dash salt

Preaheat oven to 350. Pour oatmeal into pie shell. Beat eggs and suggar well, beat in rest of ingredients, pour over oatmeal. Bake 40 minutes.

if you like pecan pie you will like this ..

The recipe is basically a pecan pie, but with oatmeal instead of pecans, and a touch of cinnamon just cause it's yummy, lol.

quick cook

Yes, I've always used quick cook oats, I don’t know if old fashioned oats would work or not.

It really is yummy, and no worries about nut allergies either.

I love oatmeal cookies and this pie looks like a definite step-up from there. Of course with my baking skills I will need to use those refrigerated roll-out pie crusts. How great that your family has an annual reunion. As generations are replaced and family members scatter, I think reunions are rapidly becoming a lost tradition. Please enjoy :-)

I hadnt thought about it, but you named it exactly. It tastes like a pecan pie with a soft oatmeal cookie topping. Lol.

As for the family reunion, well.. it isnt what it used to be, the turn out is a quarter of what it was in the early 90s when we used to rent the elementary school gym/cafeteria for reunions. It is nice to go, but I honestly think most people agree that no one is thrilled when the date of their family reunion rolls around, its one of those social obligations one must attend regardless.

Outside of the rural south are people even taught the concept of social obligations anymore?

As in,
I know you dont want to go, but its tradition,
or,
I know they are boring as hell, but they invited us over, now we have to invite them,
Or my favorite,
I know that we all hate aunt Ida, everyone hates her, but
Shes family and we are going to visit her.

Seems like most people I meet anymore have no concept of this. They dont wanna, so they dont.

lol, super sweet..

As southern desserts tend to be, it is ridiculously sweet and gooey, in the tradition of pecan pie, lol.

Sounds like you did it right, ;)

I most certainly have to try this! I love pecan pie, but I always pick the pecans off and give them to my mom since it's usually always Thanksgiving or Christmas that we have it, so I guess it's more of a meringue with hint of pecan pie haha. Thanks for sharing this! Awesome range too!

Took a stab at this pie this morning.  I've never eaten pecan pie (for real!) so didn't have a reference what to expect.  It is very oooey/gooey and sweet with all the sugar and corn syrup!  Largely a winner but not to be done very often, LOL.  Sorry, no pic, I'm not artistic for pinching-up a nice edge on the crust.
