I did a load of jeans today, and I ended up washing a roll of teflon tape I left in my pocket after a plumbing project. The tape, luckily not an adheasive, came off the plastic roll and wrapped all around the agitator. The stuff's stretchy, and won't break, so it took a while to remove.

I'm forever washing small screws, connectors, and other objects in my pockets that I wind up putting in there at work. No mater how frequently I tell myself to check the pockets of clothing, something still makes it by and ends up in the washing machine. Luckily, paper currency is made of an unusually durable paper that has no problem getting wet!

I almost never check pockets, I know it's a bad habit, but I just don't think to, I have washed many things, chapstick, gum, tic tacs, rubber bands, my wallet, my school id card, etc. Once when I was doin my sister's laundry, I found a $20, she never knew about me finding that! HA! lol

Forgot I had a couple of folded up tissues in the pocket of jeans once. Not that odd I guess, but what a mess all over a load of colored clothes.

Re: Odd Items Getting Washed:

It sounds like someone is "Laundring Money" once in a while!!!

I've had Gum and Tissues get Washed, but never something like a Wallet. I would think that one would notice the extra weight in the Pocket area. I hope that there weren't any Pix's in the Wallet, that could get ruined.

odd washings

well i today wash things inside out, just to make sure that i have nothing left in the pockets, i have a habit of fiddling with bits of paper during Uni lectures and then it ends up in my pocket which usually ends up in the wash. My mother however, never checked pockets, just flug whatever was in the wash basket into the machine (seperating colors of course), so how could she not miss the CLANG that was my mobile phone hitting the wash tub? Well she did, couldn't find my phone anywhere and then heard decided to ring it, imagine the horror as i followed the sound down to the laundry and into the washer. Of course the phone died, spluttering its final blast of Mission Impossible so i knew where its grave was, i miss that phone :(
Oh yeah and a few weeks ago i was using the whirlpool and accidentally knocked the whole box of powder into the machineluckily not too much spilled into the wash before i grabbed it out, but enough to make a LOT of suds, three deep rinses later and it was gone, so was my habit of balancing the box on the side of the machine.
Happy washings

Oh, let's see....

I've washed my wallet, it was ok in the washer, but various cards got caught in the dryer's blower, including my Red Cross Blood Donor card (this was back in the day.....) I gently separated the photos while they were still wet, and they were only mildly damaged.

I washed and dried a black ballpoint pen-story in Super.

Most recently, I washed my Mag-Lite "Solitaire" flashlight. This was over a year ago, however. This is the very small one for the key chain. Takes an "AAA" battery. After it dried out, it was fine. Still have it, still works, though I haven't washed it since.

I always check for bus tokens. Here, they are plastique, and I'd be afraid that they might melt in the dryer.

Someone here, I forget whom, washed his stash, and I don't mean his cookie duster, either.

Over the last year a quarter (US 25-cent coin) has gotten in there once. Made an interesting rhythmic clatter for about a minute or so before I reached in and removed it. Over the years nothing more dramatic than paper folded up in my back pocket, which of course makes a mess of shreds that eventually come out in the dryer (checking the lint screen twice during the load). I'm good about checking my pockets just because I don't want to cause a washer to break down or end up shredding money (even though it's hard to shred) or some critical notes I wrote down during the day.

Pocket treasures in the laundry appliances.....

I never check pockets (so slap me), and have washed rocks, pocket knives, money, chapstick (it disappears in the dryer), various screws and nails, shells, tissues (husband is the worst offender on this), tickets, and small animals (just kidding). So far, none of this "booty" has damaged either the washer or dryer.

Not odd, but REALLY stupid

Back in 2004 when we had snow here on Christmas eve, I was out in the park with the kids, throwing snowballs, and acting the typical fool. My cell phone was in my sweatpants, and when I finally got inside about 1 am, everything got thrown into the A606. Well it was ruined to say the least, and I could not get another cell phone until the day after Christmas. It didn't help that I was somewhat intoxicated that night in the snow either. (Always trying to find a reason to celebrate SOMETHING, LOL)
I got my commupance...I got sick with the flu right after that!

I ALWAYS check pockets, but Mom of course doesn't, which is why she is forbidden (LOL) to use the 1-18 or WO-65-2, or any Studio machines for that matter. I've seen it all in the tub and lint filter of the Maytag, and the drum and lint filter of the dryer. The worst solid object that has been washed/dried so far was my mom's cell phone, left in my sister's pocket when she went out to ride her bike. This rendered it non-functioning...you would think that would give Mom some incentive to start checking, but I guess not!!

Once, however, I was washing a HUGE load of darks in the 1-18, and I *thought* I checked everything, but while I was unloading, a sharp, bellows/pulsator-piercing rock from my sister's jeans fell out and into the tub. Luckily it had remained there during the cycle and no damage was done!! Needless to say I only wash MY clothes in the Unimatic or 1-18 as of now...:)

Forgotten Stuff

I always manage to forget about those shirt coller stiffeners in bussiness / dress shirts, the little pieces of plastic have managed to float down into the pump of the MaytAsko...I heard this flicking sound and couldnt fathom where it was coming from, the plastic strips had lodged againt the pump vanes and was causing a flicking action when the pump came on.

Glen, (The Forbidden Cycle) I always laugh when I think of you with that light, one of those so fast but so slow moments, although it would have been no laughing matter at the time, could have been a complete disaster for you and the machine, if you still have the file would you mail it me!!

Cheers, Mike

Cigarettes

Once my father left a pack of cigarettes in a pocket and they went through a full cylcle in my mom's 1-18. What a mess!

Otherwise I am pretty good about checking pockets but have had coins go through as well as a lighter which was found before going in the dryer. My other half has a habit to leave tissues in his pockets which come out in tact in the SQ FL'er but not so much in the Maytag TL'er.

Oops...

I was hoping to let the cell phone incident slide, but Austin busted me! Dang! See Carol, you aren't the only one wearing the scarlet "S" on her forehead! Are we a couple of distracted "moms" or what? ;-)

Haaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!

Cigarettes?? OMG what a mess THAT is, (done it)

Venus, the WORSE thing about the cell phone being washed, was that particular phone from Verizon at a flippin cost of $150.00 did not have *uh, darnit, my memory lapsed*, blue tooth technology, or some way of retrieving the numbers off the phone, a memory chip?? Heck, I forgot what it was called.
Having to retrieve and hunt down ALL those numbers was a PITA!
