DDs were a great design revamp for Whirlpool.

This panel design however-  Uggh. It's got to be the most bland appliance panel.  It just doesn't give justice to Kenmore/Whirlpool quality.  It wasn't until they redesigned in about 1999 that at least the new panels gave some humanity to these.

Just about there was a late 80s/early 90s model that had a separate speed switch with all the various speed combinations as well as a small incandescent light above the timer.  I believe that was the last rendition that had Lady Kenmore

not quite correct.....

all Lady Kenmores had electromechanical controls.....

the digital series with full fluorescent panel were "Limited Edition" machines....

they ran roughly 1987 through 1998

The all electronic models were being sold when I bought my LKs October 1986.  The all black set was on the sales floor and was quite dramatic, sexy looking to me.  One of the reasons why I love black appliances.

I too bought my first Lady K's in 1986.....in platinum.....A, for something different, and B, the laundry was in the kitchen, and figured I would get all the rest in that color.....but platinum and toast were soon discontinued after that...

so in 89, when I bought the whole kitchen in the Limited Edition series, I bought the digital machines as well.......although I went with Almond, at the time, wanted something different than just plain white...

although could have gotten the all white monochromatic if I waited another year or two....

today, for the most part you can mix black and stainless and get a decent look.....otherwise, you better buy them all at the same time, don't figure on them having those colors should you buy one now and change piece by piece.....if you do, best to pick something like white, you can always match that....

Nice set. My grandmother had that dryer, or maybe a model below it. I liked the big drop down door on it. I guess something happened to it as she replaced it with a Whirlpool a few years ago.

I agree these were not my favorite console design, but better than the lower end ones that were just plain plastic. Especially the weird Galaxy ones I saw at Sears in the late 90s that were brown with black knobs.

My neighbor has a Kenmore set from the mid 90s in this shape in white. I like those best. My parents have a 1999 washer and 2004 dryer with the later curvy consoles and I like those too. Their dryer has the little door on the dryer that opens sideways, not as nice as the drop down door.

I saw one of the white console ones with the lighted knob at Habitat awhile back, very cool. If I ever got my own place I'd like a set of those or a black electronic set with full fluorescent lights.

My mom has a Series 80. The "cycle modifiers" are in the main dial. Both soak and second rinse must be set manually. I agree; it's a great machine. Turnover is impressive, even with the 'dogs' needing to be replaced. The self-cleaning lint filter is flawless (as was the filter of the previous '67 model).

I've advised Mom to repair and not to replace the machine if problems develop. There's a vague possibility she might listen this time around. About 10 years ago she replaced her mid-70's KA Superba because the racks needed to be replaced and the price she was quoted was about $300. She's now on her second dishwasher since ditching the KA.
