Well I went out today to see what was new and I came back with ...

A red box of Bold caled Crushed... (something) and jasmine, which I haven't used yet but smells nice in the box - rose like, a bit pot-pourri, very girly.

A yellow bottle of Sainsburys (Henkel) Fabric softener - which I have used and which is really nice. I think it's nicer than the other two but then it may be novelty value.

A box of Cool Fresh Surf, just to compare scents with the other two. My definite fave Surf is tropical fresh - gorgeous, reminds me of shampoo in the eighties.

A bottle of Stergene - but not proper unilever stergene - that was discontinued, this one is made on the channel islands. Haven't tried it yet. Loved the original Stergene.

Anyone else tried anything new?

Anyone else had any new finds lately?

Nick the new Bold smells great. But you know me, ive boycoted Ariel again. LOL. Im curious about surf myself. Let me now if the whiteness of your whites are as good as them done in NB Persil. My dear old Nan bless her swore by Lemon surf. I loved the smell of that. Nick

I used morrisons dryer sheets and the clothes came out worst than normal :( I actually think it created wrinkles :(

Marks n Sparks Blue china Bath oil is fab though for bed clothes if you ever dare risk it in your machines. Lovely fresh smell.

Pink Comfort - I think its called Lily and rice flower .... I was impressed

* Persil Gel Biological tablets choke me! Bleurrgh! LOL

* Persil tablets with Comfort stuff (not really Comfort, I know) has a very delicate fragrance. It has very few fragrance ingredients.

Don’t try anything that’s fragrance-free – you won’t smell anything! (Boom boom! That’s my attempt at humour! LOL Stop groaning! LOL)

nickuk’s got me onto this about the chemicals in products. ;-) I’ve been doing research before and trying to avoid stuff, but he pretty much saved me several weeks of checking for perfume ingredients, etc! Thanks, Nick! :-)

i used

tdidnt read your post properly but ive been using original green fairy liquid. I like its no nonsense smell. And i really do use less than my Persil aloe vera but im not sure what my daily driver will be. I like the scent of both too much. I also been washing up like you do Nick, no bowl of water, instead under the hot tap. Im not sure i like it. I like the bowl of water but i change it when i feel its dirty enough. And pour a boiling kettle over the dishes in the rack after as a rinse. Each to their own i guess. I miss my dishwasher! Northern Nick.

Nick, I like the Persil WUL but my main gripe with it is the paper `labels' which they use on the bottles - they go manky after a while and start to tear, look really dirty etc. Fairy label is kind of waterproof. I used to love green Persil WUL which was, I think, tea trea oil and something (peppermint?) absolutely gorgeous scent, the new ALoe one is ok but nothing compared to that IMO.

As for washing up - LOL - just do it whatever suits you. My only gripe is with people washing up in brown`gone cold' water with no bubbles left - and yes, I have seen it quite a few times! You have the intellience to know when to change the water. If I had a big wash up to do I would probably fill the bowl and do it like i was taught in school, glasses first etc.

You know another thing that bugs me? People who don't rinse. Gross! My uncle was hospitalised once because his wife didn't rinse. Or at least that's what my Mum told me.

Neil - please clarify, you wash your bedding with bubble bath? I'm intrigued...

Regards my new detergents - I haven't changed allegiance of brand or anything, I just love to try anything new.

Although I do seem to be using a lot of Ecover FS right now - not made with animal fat (nice), no artificial perfumes (nice),no formaldehyde preservative which always leaves a certain smell....doesn't leave foam on the blacks like Comfort can,....so what's the disadvantage? Honestly, I'm still searching for one......the scent isn't exciting but it's honest and fresh and doesn't leave too much stink when the stuff dries but still leaves an impression, so thanks to Jon for enlightening me on this one!

Guilty as charged

Hi Nick - Yes I do wash my sheets in bubble bath from marks and spencers. Normally Rose Oil but recently China blue. I dont use much since my sheets are washed weekly at 60 and there is a foam issuse. I should point out that these are not dirty but rather sweaty so cleaning is not really an issue.

Fantastic smell at the end and great for my allergies. Which currently include all types of alcohol, pollen, sweetcorn, avocado, bold powder, surf powder , dreft and raw potatoes :(

I have to be so careful! Changing detergents at the drop of a hat is not really an option for me. Right now Im happy with Persil Biologoical liquid as it cleans and rinses well here, 50 mls is plenty and a half dose of any comfort or yellow lenor.

Neil

Well you learn something new every day. Assume bubble bath is non biological (lol) but then I guess at 60 degrees any `biological' sheet type stains would be removed anyway. You could have a bath with it and then slip into the `themed' sheets, how very decadent!

PS (Here he goes again, back on his soapbox) For allergies have you tried Persil non bio tabs? Or `tab' which is adequate for most of our washes? Great cleaning, light scent and superb rinsing.

Everyone's different aren't they, the two people in my family with eczema break into a rash if I so much as think about using Lenor. Much as I like the yellow scent - probably my fave one.

New To Me!!! Fairy Snow Handwash & Twintub

I`m not sure this is "New Out" or just "New To Me", was in ASDA (owner now Walmart) yesterday and perusing the detergent isle for far too long as you do!!! Came across the Fairy Snow for handwash n Twintubs...I remember the 60`s version, and even the song...

"Fairy Snow Is Great
Its got Perborate
It gets right to the
Heart of the Wash"

When you see the 60`s adds its got one of those dam tunes that keeps you awake at night!!!...LOL

Nice light smell, smooth & silky, green speckles with cream n white powder, has a nice slip to it when rubbing, BUT, it sooo smelt like Persil of Old....which is not good as its made by the competition...

Anyone else tried it!!!

p.s. go to Imperial thread to see the Servis Powerglide in action...

Only Liquids

Nick

I have not used powder for years. I am just so impressed with Persil Biological Liquid Gel. It cleans well, likes me ( or I like it ) and smells great AFTER the clothes are dry.

However,

For wools I use woolite. Have you tried that ? It has a lovely fresh smell and one cap is all you need !

Likewise, I find there is nothing better than ariel non bio liquid if I can warrant enough to justify a 3 hr 95c white load !

Happy washing fellow washerholic

Neil

bubble bath and frothed up automatics

very occasionally i use persil handwash and twin tub in the FL. Usually for muddy trainers, which are now redundant from the gym and get used for jobs down the allotment and walking the dog on a muddy field. Ok so im double naughty for allowing shoes into the washer but hey, i really dont have time to stand at the garden tap doing such jobs. Next confession please. . . LOL. Nick. Wonder if my green radox would be good on sheets. I love herbal smells and would love to have a herbal FS in the comfort range for bedding. lenor lavender and whatever is awful. My mum uses it sometimes. And it mings.

Nick, don’t you speak about your mother’s Lenor like that or I’ll give you the taste of the back of my hand! ;-)
