Just a quiet easter sunday afternoon, Decided to make a movie of the Roto-Rack in action, we just couldn't stand not being able to see what was happening in side, soooo... we improvised! both being graduates of the Red Green school of home repair, we cut a vinyl shower curtain down to fit the door opening, then of course, a good riiiiiiiiiiip of the good ole duct tape, a small hallogen spot light, and voila, a clear view of what was going on inside of the kenmore during the rinse cycle.
Chris finally got to play with the machine, three loads of dishes over the weekend...whee!
Think a plexi-glass insert is in its future, this machine is fun to watch doing its thing.
Rich and Chris.

Rich & Chris, thank you so very much. Huge affectionate bear hugs to ya both. That brings back so many memories. I almost wanna cry!!!

Stupid Question

I don't know enough about these DW. What makes the rack turn? Is it just the water spray or is there a mechanism that turns it?
Love the video Thanks Mark

there is a water tube with holes at the back of the tub by the upper rack that are angled and send the rack flying. It was slowed down by the vinyl covering the door, when fully loaded, that rack really spins around.

Thank You. It always amazes me how much thought the engineers put into building great quality that has lasted the tests of time.

Awesome video!
Thanks for posting it!
These old D&M design pumps really kicked booty!
I can't get over how fast the roto rack turned! Love it!
Is this one of your main dishwashers?
Thanks for the Easter Treat!
Brent

Great video and thanks for the Easter eye candy, I would not of known that a small amount of water is sprayed when it reverses to drain, until your vid. The folks wore out 2 D&M portable machines. That is truly a secret cycle. alr2903

I did. I managed to override the safety switch on one of ours and say it. Plus, I think I noticed the spray arm had moved from the time I opened it after a wash period and the end of a drain period.

Oh yeah baby........!

Sorry for the corn..... but the first dishwasher we ever owned was a roto-rack and the sounds of this one are classic just like I remember! How neat on the Corelle (probably spelled wrong) Livingware in gold no less..... my mom had the green flower verson and grandmother the gold like you have. Ah, so many, many memories!

Rich and Chris,

Yes, that was a great video. I too wondered how fast the roto-rack turned on these. The sound of the pump is interesting to listen to. The shower curtain and duct tape is a really good option to Plexiglas, and much less expensive too. I will have to remember that for future viewing demos on my own front-loading dishwashers.

Thanks.

Mike

Now we all know how it goes!

And who among us wasn't dying to see a roto rack turning? But now you tease and say it goes even faster. Awesome and funny.

(Little kid talkin'):How much faster? Fix it to make it go faster. C'mon, faster. LOL

That was a really exciting video. Are the KM door latches easy to rig, or do we need to be "graduates of the Red Green school of home repair"? ;'D

Thank you for a sweet treat.

Kenmore door latches are easy to rig. Just stick your finger where the door latch tongue inserts, start to move the door lats just enough past the mechanism barrier point, remove the finger and your home free!!

Rotating speed of the top rack

Maybe a plexiglass covering won't drag on the top rack like the vinyl curtain did. Plus, it rotates much faster when it's very full rack.

Thanks Bob

So it's a pretty standard maneuver then, huh, because that's how I rig the Tappan, but I use the end of a spoon, pinkie won't fit. Good to know that. A bit trickier than the washers probably because of flooding-the-kitchen issues. LOL.

My Aunt Alice has a 7? LK Portable waiting for me, and when I get up to speed, I'll move it in here and try your plexiglass method with a Bob-load.

Rich,
Just curious.
Are you guys going to install this bad boy?
The interior looks so nice.
Is the outside just as mint?
I keep watching the video over and over. I think you guys are a first for posting a video of a Roto-Rack in action.
Awesome!
Thanks again.
Brent

Why does the rack turn in the first place?

Allen--ya have revolving upper spray arms--well, this time you have revolving top rack. As the rack revolves, the dishes are passed through the field of spray dedicated for the top rack to wash the dishes.
