I recently acquired a vintage O&M stove from what I suspect is the early 60's (model 9483) and it's backsplash says "hold-o-matic" on it. Does anyone know what a "hold-o-matic" is? They seemed rather shy about it, because it really doesn't stick out or light up or anything.

Also, a lot of the paint in the grooves on the oven thermostats has worn off. You can still see the temperature setting (thanks to the grooves)but I'd like to get them repainted. Does anyone know how to do that?

Just guessing

Might Hold-O-Matic (love the name!) be one of those arrangements where the oven lowers itself to holding temperature after the roast is done?

Simply get a very fine tipped brush like people use for painting models, and a little bottle of white model paint. Make sure the grooves are clean first. It'll be sort of pain-staking and time consuming, but worth it.

Hold-a-matic might be one of two things.

A temperature probe that holds the oven at a certain temperature. Look for a headphone type jack in the oven.

A function of the oven timer that turns the oven down to a Keep Warm temp after a cooking time set by the user. Most deluxe ranges of the time had timers that would start and stop the oven at times the user set.
