Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

I love clocks and have a few. I always dreamed of having a nice grandfather clock someday. I have (had) 3 cuckoo's in my little collection, one was a very nice white painted one. I presented it to our friend Alice the day we moved out for all the help she gave us packing, sorting etc., since she had always admired it. I still have 2 of the regular dark wood cuckoo's along with a mantle clock, some windup Westclox, decorative wall clocks etc.

Rhythm

It all goes back to rhythm, whether it be a ticking clock, a whirring washing machine or a heartbeat. There's something soothing about repetitive sounds.

Question about winding

When I'm winding it up, how do I know when I've wound it enough? I know not to try and force it so I when I started to feel some resistance I stopped. Cuckoo's are easy, just pull both chains.

It depends on the length of the mainsprings. I would recommend that you try looking inside the clock while winding it a few times while watching the mainsprings (if visible on your clock) tighten. This way, you can get a feel for the resistance of the winding in relation to tension of the spring. This is what I did my first few times with the Ingraham mantle clock.

-------->I am a Virgo that is a Clock Horr<------

I have many in my house, and is it me, or does an exorberant amound of things that we have can tell time,i.e. Radar range, cell phone, Range, LG refrigerators, computer,?Not to metion the oversized black alarm clock that I have on my wall in my bedroom.

Who you callin' a whore?

~unless it makes you money, it would be a "slut" *LOL*

I really do think Virgos, in general, have a "thing" for clocks.

Something to do with keeping things ("the world") neat and orderly and on-schedule.

As a Virgo myself, I would agree that Virgo's like clocks. Must be something about the perfection of keeping time.

We have quite a few clocks around here.

A Cuckoo we bought in Germany in 1994..
A Linden Bracket clock that was a Ebay disaster. But we put a new movement and not only does it keep perfect time, but it sounds more like a Grandfather clock than a Bracket Clock. Built in 1970. I have bought other Lindens like this one off of Ebay and put new movements in them and given them as gifts, but none have had the rich and bold sound of this particular one. The other ones sounded more like Music Boxes rather than Grandfather clocks.
A Japanese Linden "Gothic Look" clock that only dings once on the hour. Very loud ticking. Age Unknown. But we got it on Ebay very cheap less than $10.00 and the reverse happened. The seller said that it doesn't always want to work, but as long as we have had it it has never stopped, and we've had it for two years!
A Howard Miller Grandfather Clock, it was a Christmas Gift from my sister in Chicago. We've had it about 2 years now. I think it sounds kinda chintzy on the hour strikes. It sounds kind of like someone hitting the bottom of an aluminum pan with a metal spoon. We've made sure the hammers aren't resting upon the chime rods.
Of course, since we like photos......

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is fun and also a source of many a late night headache. the original owners of our home owned it for over a hundred years. It was a large family with lots of the men folk given the same or similar names and as you know a lot of the documents use initials so you dont always know who they are talking about. Here is a little story for you. I bought this clock which is an 1850s Seth Thomas at a friends yard sale in my home town wich is about 20min from here. They didnt know anything about it, just cleaning out the attic of their 1910 home and found it. I cleaned it a little and found a tag inside for a jeweler in trenton who sold it. A year or so later I was on the County website looking at historic bussiness from 1850 and found the jewerer`s ad and the location of his shop. Neat huh! then we moved here in the town where the jeweler was from and I decided it looked great on the mantle in the 1846 part of our house. well a couple of weeka ago I`m looking up the original family marriages and find that the jeweler was married to one of the familys daughters! Spooky Indeed! So if it starts chimin` at midnight I`m gettin outa` here!
