Old Light Fixtures

I don't know about anyone else but, I really like them. Especially from the victorian to the art deco era. Every time I go to a garage sale, good will, or a salvage store I always look to see if they have any. I think it's the way they are made and the designs they have. My wife always asks me "Don't you think that you have enough"? I always say "No". I've used many of them in our house that we are currently renovating. I buy them if they're complete or not and I always rewire them before I install them. I was just curious to see if anyone else here likes them as well?

Yes! In the last year I have acquired, restored, and installed several Art Deco light fixtures. My house was built in 1936. I got several fixtures, including two Czechoslovakian crystal chandeliers (one with an Art Deco cut, I haven't been able to find another like it) and three sunburst three light crystal drop lights, from the house next door (built about 1930). I found a few matching drop lights on ebay so now I have enough to do the hallways and front entry way with matching fixtures.

I just acquired two R. Williamson (Beardslee) Art Deco sconces to put in the living room on either side of the fireplace.

I'll tell you the lights that I like, those ones that Cracker Barrel has, those antique looking brass things with a hurricane shade over the bulb.

Put me on the list! I love old light fixtures. Lighting can be EVERYTHING. If the light is not right it can really ruin a room. Fluorescent office lighting in the dinning room can really ruin an appetite!

I love these too !!!!

My interests are in collecting the fluorescent light fixtures from the late 1930`s to early 1940`s .

Wow, those are some fancy looking fluorescents there. What I have around here is way more plain and industrial, but will still get pix of them for you at some point.

I love that fan light!!

How well does the fan work? Is that considered a slip shade light fixture? I have never seen one before with a fan like that. I like those other flourecent fixtures too!!

All of these expect for the one in our half bath I had to refinish and rewire.The one in our half bath I got from from the home depot for $20.00, I check on line and some companies were charging around $100.00 for almost the exact same one.

Yes, The shades on the guth are slip shades , The fan pulls air up through the center & disperses it out along the sides .

This was a good selling point for Guth because most ceiling fans at the time would pull hot air down from the ceilings onto people.

BTW - Beautiful lights , Beautiful home Too!!!!!!

Nice fixtures everyone. Roger, my local lighting store has an Art Deco fluorescent fixture like the one on the right in the pic you posted. It is missing one piece of glass. I think they are asking $175.00 for it. Love that fan light, never seen one before.

I just received these today. These are two brass Art Deco sconces, but they are oil, not electric. They were used on a ship. They have a double wick and a lever to extinguish the wicks without having to blow on them (or maybe it is a dimming lever - not sure). They are designed to have an outer decorative shade and an inner chimney.
