David,

I would love to know where that fluorescent fixture is .

I have familly in Orange Tx that area seems to be a haven for old fluorescent fixtures.

Thanks for the compliment.

We have a house full of them too.

Our victorian was built around 1903, so when we moved it and started rebuilding/restoring, the hunt was on for cool ceiling and wall fixtures from the 20's and 30's.

I'm loving that Guth fan and the vintage fluorescents. I've never seen either!!

I noticed on your lights web page that it looks like you have painted over paneling in your hall. I have been thinking about doing that to my family room, how big a pain is it?

Painting Paneling

I have painted over paneling before. It's not a real hard job to do, just time consuming. The first thing you want to do is to clean the paneling real good with a good cleaner (I used ammonia and warm water). Then you want to use a good primer like kiltz (I used the oil base). Depending how dark your paneling is you might have to do 2 or 3 coats of primer. I waited a day between coats. After I was done priming I waited another day to paint. You can use latex paint (I did). Like I said it's not hard just time consuming.

Neat subject! I have been tinkering with old lights for about 20yr and love many of the styles. The last I restored just a couple of months ago, is Art Deco. It`s brass and aluminum and took a while to polish all of it. It will go in the dinning room when we get the room finished.

The paneling in my house was already painted when I moved in. I have repainted most of it. First I painted a coat of Kilz on then the color.

I had to replace 4 sheets in my office after the hurricane. I followed the same technique that bmgilk outlined above.

Panel Painting

Have painted paneling and found that for the grooves in the paneling go get the corner brush it is a hand and arm saver. Have used the sponge corner roller but the V shaped one with the pad is the best to me.
