Correct me if I'm wrong but,

when did 806s' have only a 3 button fabric selector?? aside from the temps, the 3 button "Normal-Gentle-Permanent Press" seems very 406 to me. Or was this the first iteration of the 806??

The very very early ones did.  It's kind of a shame, according to my opinion, that there wasn't a model in between the 2-speed 606 and the 4-speed combo 806.  Maybe there at one time had been planened to have one, i.e. a 706 with 3-speed combo.  I don't recall seeing this feature again until the completely redesigned control panel came out in 1980 or 1981.  Had a friend from work buy a Maytag set when she and her husband got married.  It had the 3-speed combo.  For some reason it just kind of irritated me that the only way one could obtain a N/S combination was with the 806.  WP & Kenmore had it quite prominently in their line.  At least 2 GE models offered it as well as Westinghouse and Norge and these weren't necessarily the TOL models either.

Got it!!!! I just had to replace the back light bulb and the starter, and 5 loads of laundry! There seems to be a small oil leak coming out from the screw in the belt drive pulley. Is this something I should be concerned about? How can I check the oil level to make sure it's not dry?

Also, anyone have a matching dryer? This machine looks nice!
