I have a old Maytag disposer it's a batch feed FB-20 this is the largest disposer I have ever seen. This machine is HUGE with the foam insulation shell on it.This disposer is used but I have rebuilt the motor put in new seals and cleaned the bearings and everything. This disposer has a different flywheel than my other two it's very thick cast Iron or steel.Does anybody know what this is made of and why my other two have a stainless steel flywheel and this one does not?I have sandblasted the flywheel and want to soak it in some chemicals but I don't want to ruin it cause they are kinda caustic. The flywheel is a lot thicker than my other ones.I was also wondering what the grind ring is made of?It's the largest grind ring I have ever seen in a disposer and cast steel but what type?My boyfriends dad owns a machine shop and he is going to sharpen it and bring it back to new but he told me that it would be better if he knew what it was made of.If anybody knows anything that would be great. These Maytags are the best disposer's made or one of them and to think that they were just a 1/2 H.P. but I could grind anything in them and they never jam.
