Automatic Washer - The world's coolest Washing Machines, Dryers and Dishwashers

Help Support :

OOH! Somebody needs to grab this. It is a 1966 Model 70 series with a lighted dial like the 1963 70 had, and a black Rotoswirl with the thumbnail cap. My neighbor had the dryer match.

I'm guessing the poster is referring to the dryer next to it when he says the drum is made of stainless steel, because the tub in this washer must be white porcelain.

Have a good one,
James

yes she did

Actually in the NBC Episodes I think she had a Frigidaire washer and a Kenmore dryer and then in the syndicated episodes both the washer and the dryer were Kenmore but they were not a matched set.........PAT COFFEY

Takes me back!

Great Machine, Mommy had one close to this machine except I believe it was a 600 Series, didn't have the chrome square around the dial and dial was not lighted and had a manual metal lint filter, (Nasty Thing, wet lint)

This Kenmore replaced the 1956 frog eye washer Dad took apart to fix and didn't put back together so Mommy got a NEW 600 Series (I think) LOL

I really like these control panels the metal seemed to look like some type of woven fabric but it guess it was just textured metal painted with some very light gold colored paint.

Permanent Press?

I would have expected "Wash -N- Wear" labeling instead of Permanent Press. Wonder if they updated the timer due to parts NLA.

The perfect 'middle class' washer

I'll say 1970-71 because of the lid switch button instead of the mercury switch, the gold Rotoswirl and the metal door handle.

These were common back in the day. Just about everyone's mom had one. But I'd take it in a heartbeat if it were closer.

NO DOUBT it does the fill/agitate in the permanent press cooldown.

Oops:

Wow I don't know how I missed those other ad photos. If I had caught them there no way I would have said 1966. This is clearly a 1971 version. The design of the console is what drew my earlier assessment, since it is like several 1966 models I have seen, but the gold Rotoswirl, and knob types point to a later date. The visible push button lid switch is the dead giveaway as to when this particular washer was issued; as 1971 was the only year in Kenmore manufacturing where this lid switch was paired with the chrome handled lid.

Have a good one,
James

Drewz:

Your mom did have the 600 series washer from what you describe. There was one in a recent video on Googlevideo created by Dick S., but for the life of me I can not find it.

I would have expected "Wash -N- Wear" labeling ins

Malcolm, Kenmore & Whirlpool (I believe) used the double moniker of Wash'n'Wear and Permanent Press on the cycle control knobs for a couple of years as a transition. that was probably around 1965 or 1966. By 1968 or 1969, only Permanent Press was used. This is the original timer knob on this unit.
