I decided to take apart and clean the harvest gold Sunbeam MixMaster. I don't know what this yellow/brown stuff is, but it sure looks gross!

I used one of my typewriter cleaning brushes, and a can of compressed air, and got most of it out, non electric parts were soaked in very hot water with some Dawn in it. When I get the new air gun attachment for my air compressor, I blow it out some more. Is there anything else I should do to it while I have it taken apart?

Flour Dust

Mixing or adding dry ingredients with the speeds turned up too high creates dust that is sucked into the motor by cooling fans. This mixer, the 1-7 has cooling vents cut into the under body of the mixer as well so it plucks it from the bowl. The yellowish color comes from factory lubrication that mixes with the dust once the mixer is warmed.

That's what I figured. I think I will take apart my other two Sunbeams and do the same to them. I used the one you sent me Kelly to make the spice cake, for a little mixer it has some power.

Simple Syrup

For cakes that feel a tad dry or if you want to decorate them and have them stay moist until the wedding you can bursh them with a soaking syrup. Dissolve equal amounts of water and sugar. Stir to dissolve and bring to a ahrd boil. Cool and add any liquor or flavoring you like. If the cake is really dry poke it all over with a fork or chopstick and give it a syrup bath followed with a Saran Wrap cover to let the moisture assimilate. I have another Sunbeam yo may be interested in. I am off for the MRI tube (another reason to loose weight) but I'll put up a picture when I get home.

Thanks for the info Eric, it does have the Marco setting. I've the camera for several years, and still have figured out everything about it yet, LOL.

So that's what that means on my camera...

...I've never been one to do the whole RTFM thing. Maybe I'll have to start!
