I am looking into a new dishwasher for one of the apartments I own and am thinking of the GE Artistry dishwasher (in white). Does anyone here have any experience with one of these or GE dishwashers with similar guts?

Working in an appliance parts store, I have found that LG and Samsung appliances are by far the most hated by the service community and most difficult to get parts for. Frigidaire also doesn't seem to build a great dishwasher. Whirlpool and GE seem to make the most liked dishwashers these days, but GE tends to have somewhat lower prices on parts, at least for commonly needed dishwasher parts.

I am a landlord looking for an appliance that looks good and functions well, but won't cost an arm and a leg. I'm not looking at the cheapest thing out there, but I want a respectable value for my money. I am shooting for above mid-market for my rentals and one way I try to do that is by equipping my kitchens with more attractive MOL appliances, as opposed to obviously "landlord-special" BOL models. Ideally, any dishwasher I install should have a time-delay setting and a high-temperature option. I'd love to use the GE Artistry range, but I'd rather have a self-cleaning oven. A S/C oven is worth slightly more rent and it's one less thing I have to do when I turn over an apartment. I'd rather hit the clean cycle than spend the time on my hands and knees cleaning someone else's mess.

Is the GE Artistry dishwasher a good machine?
Dave

PS: I am currently living in the apartment in question, but will be moving to a different unit in the next few months. Right now I am using a KDS-16 which is working out quite nicely, but I won't subject it to tenants :)

The wash system in the artistry looks to be the same as the one in most of their new (BOL and MOL) offerings. There was a recent thread about about a 520 machine and the tub looks the same. The artistry model looks like it has a more dressed up door and some of the controls for higher level machines. Unless someone here has direct experience I would guess it works as well but looks better on the outside. I have a top control machine from this series and i have been happy with as detailed in the thread I linked.

Decent New DW

We are using mid-level MT DWs for this type of use situation, you can either get a SS or plastic tank depending on what you want to spend. I have installed a few of these new GE DWs and am very unimpressed about the construction and design in general, but who knows they may last a while.I do agree that GE seems to have a parts price advantage on common parts for their mid and low end appliances, but have you tried ordering any parts for a GE Monogram appliance, it will make parts for Kitchen-aid appliances look great.

Thanks for the input.

I tend to avoid the TOL lines such as Kitchenaid and GE Monogram / Profile for my rentals. I tend to try to go for a good value of simplicity and just enough useful features to make my choice in appliances for my tenants seem to not be cheap. I also look for respectable quality of construction and ease / economy of future repairs and maintenance. The TOL appliance lines, while nice, just don't seem to offer the value for the money I'm looking for in relation to their appeal to potential tenants.

Good information,
Dave
