I use most of the powders that are available, dont use the liquids unless its the Persil S&M and thats for floor cleaning, the one powder I do use if I require reliable cleaning is Ariel, hands down its a winner, cant say I`ve noticed any blue bits or overpowering smells, but then again I do have a MaytAsko, which with higher water levels and superrinse I dont expect to have issues with residues or aromas...

The M & S stuff, I have been using as well and am impressed, and mostly Comfort pure, although for Colour blue is the only otherconditioner I tend to buy, cant bring myself to use those Caramel Cream ones...still none come close to the Comfort of the 70`s, the turquoise one especially with Persil Creamy powder etc...

M&S

Curious about the M&S powders... are these produced by somebody other than McBride if they are different to the supermarket brands?

Zipdang - Persil bio powder and Ariel colour liquid is a good combination and a combination I do use from time to time, though really as others have pointed out you can't go wrong as long as you stick to Persil or Ariel for biological, and Ariel for colour detegents.

Fairy I wouldn't bother about - it's a sensitive skin detergent much like your Dreft and while mum used it for years when we were little, it's little nowadays to what it was and isn't that "pure" anymore as it once was.

you use liquid? and here I thought you were a powder junkie like me...LOL. I do find powder cleans so much better than liquid overall. Liquids for the most part are cheaper for the manufacturers to make because they contains mostly water.

Wisk HE is a decent product and in comparison to Tide, it is much more affordable.

Yes Shane, I use liquids. And powders, too. Occasionally I've even used tablets. I really meant it when I said I was a detergent whore!

Actually, I like to keep both liquids and powders on hand. Depending on what I'm washing I might choose one or the other. Powders for warmer temps or clay-based stains, and liquids for cooler temps or oil-based stains. (Is this the part where I also admit to washing in cold water sometimes, or are you not ready for that yet?)

Okay, guys. I ordered a box of Persil Bio powder (£6.78), a bottle of Ariel Color liquid (£4.29), and a bottle of Comfort Pure concentrate (£2.08). I don't think the prices on the products are too bad, but the shipping and handling was £29.77. The total was £42.92, which is roughly $87. That's a very small price to pay for expanding my international awareness. Well, I figure if I keep telling myself that I'll eventually start to believe it.

You took the plunge, eh, David? I'm still standing at the edge... I want a box of Ariel Bio and a box of Ariel Colour & Style (both powders), but having just received about $150 worth of product from Quixtar, my credit card is swooning. Not that that's stopped me in the past.

I wash in cold water sometimes, too. In fact, I washed everything in cold water using powdered Tide Coldwater for about 8 months. Adding LCB to highly-stained white loads insured the Tide CW did a great job there, too. I really like that detergent, but it didn't do well on its own in my stain removal test.

Did you get a tracking number for the package or an estimated date of arrival?

Plunged, I did. I actually had some other items in my cart, too, but once the shipping charges starting racking up I decided I'd try a few things first and then decide if I want to order more items later. I didn't get a tracking number yet or an ETA, but the shipping method says "Parcel Force 5 working day after dispatch." Not exactly sure what that means, but I'm hoping the order arrives in two weeks.

The way I figure it, I have friends who collect things that just sit there and look pretty. At least detergents actually do something. Go ahead and get yourself some Ariel, Eugene. You've been good this year...right?

Enzymes

While enzymes are only part of the formultation they do help enormously when it comes to getting out some stains.

Both Ariel and Persil, the UK & Ireland's two premium brand detergents contain a number of enzymes in their standard universal bio formulation.

The only major difference being that Persil also contains Lipase, which will help breakdown oil and fats.

I have never really found either detergent to be poor on any stain though, but I suspect if you had really bad greasy stains, a warm wash in Persil would actually do the trick quite nicely.

Y'know, David, you're absolutely right; Except for the handful of elderly people I pistol-whip every month on Social Security check day, I've been very good this year. I deserve some lavishly expensive British detergent!

I recommend DAZ or SURF

Daz is brilliant, as it gives your whites a bluey whiteness
and works really well at 40 degrees

The powder and liquid are very good they even have a new version out called Daz Ocean Burst

Surf is good too, Its cheaper than Persil, basically the same powder but different scent and removes stains just as well I like the tropical one the best, have yet to try the new lavender one

I've used Persil bio tabs and colour tabs. I think they are phenominal. I have also used Ariel bio tabs and colour tabs. I was less impressed with them, mostly for the strong scent and the rinse-resistant suds.
