So my mother is considering buying this to replace her 2006 Double Oven Maytag Gemini electric range. I'm wondering if anyone has any input to offer on how the GE gas double oven ranges are. Such as:

1. Do the ovens heat evenly?

2. Is GE's self clean mode decent? I heard Whirlpools latest is not so good in that department...

Everything about this range looks good to me, but I'd like some expert opinions before giving the go ahead!

Got the range today and I spent the better part of the afternoon redoing the gas piping so it would fit all the way back against the wall and not kink the flexible connector.

So far very pleased with it! I did a few tests on the cooktop with a kettle and a pot of water and it brought them to a boil pretty fast! Almost as fast as the old electric range did.

Ran both the ovens to burn off that "new oven smell", and good lord did that smell horrific. Had to open the windows and leave the house for awhile. I noticed they heat up as fast as the electric ovens did, and the bottom, larger oven appears to heat up faster then the top oven. It's burner is 14,000 BTU's while the top ovens is 12,000 BTU's.

While perusing the user guide I noticed that the convection bake feature is supposed to automatically compensate for recipes as not to overbake anything with the convection fan. And the convection roast feature is supposed to not compensate. By observation, the convection bake feature only cycles the fan briefly every 30 seconds or so on a low speed, while the convection roast setting cycles the fan on a high speed more often, for longer. Even on high speed the convection fan is pretty quiet, at least compared to a Wolf convection oven I once heard that roared.

My favorite part about the old electric range was how evenly the oven heated, so I'm eager to see how the convection gas oven stacks up. Also can't wait to see how the thanksgiving turkey turns out using convection!

I had a double oven GE Profile electric and loved it. Though the top oven was a little smaller...I used it mostly for pizza and when cooking with a smaller baking pan. It heated up very quickly. The self clean in the GE Profile wall oven in the same house worked great. I used that mostly.

A believer in a gas oven, I don't know how the new ones compare,b ut to me the vintage ones are more even than the best electric, but I know im in the minority with that opinion!

My grandmothers early 60s Coppertone colored Caloric gas wall oven turned out some of the best baked goods I ever had, and a perfect thanksgiving turkey every year.

DADoES: It was the best looking freestanding range in the whole appliance store! I looked at everything else and wasn't pleased. I especially wanted to vomit at the cheap looking Whirlcrap.
The worst one I saw had two ovens but the lower was basically the storage drawer turned into a drawer oven, was rather awkward and bizarre.

This GE has a very intuitive, and clean layout to it.
 
I like my vintage gas oven too. My mom has a gas convection oven (Frigidaire I think) and I suspect has never used that feature.
 
The GE gas stove that I have is perhaps the best I have ever had the pleasure of using. Its true that in Convection Bake it does compensate for temps automatically. So if you punch in 350 for a temp it will shift it down to 325. The thing with Conv Bake is that the top broiler does not cycle on like it does in regular Bake mode. With mine the oven cycles the bottom burner, then the top like an electric oven does to add heat to the top to balance out the heating. Browning is quite nice I find.
The Convection fan will cycle on and off at low speed on Conv Bake. On Conv Roast the fan runs longer and faster to sear meats. My stove has the one oven and thats all I needed and I wanted to be able to get food out of it easily. In your stove I don't think I would care to have to get on my knees to open and unload the lower oven. And if one has back issues, you might be bent over but good trying to take something heavy out of it.
The cooktop is very good to cook on and if you have not figured it out yet, the burners come out so it makes cleanup a breeze, much like a smooth top but with the igniters popping up for each burner. I wash my grates in the sink and they clean up easily.

I have to say, these GE's seem to be made with the cook in mind! Everything about it makes sense and I can't get over the nice clean looks. Before this, I was sure you had to pony up for something ultra high end to get something cook-friendly.

On this double oven model only the top oven has a broil burner and it does not use it at all in bake mode. I'm really interested to see how quickly it turns out the turkey using the convection roast setting this Thanksgiving! and I like that the convection bake mode auto compensates, having never used a convection oven before I won't have to worry about over baking anything.

I haven't done anything but test the cooktop yet but really like it so far, I can bring water to a boil almost as fast as the electric range which I'm happy about. The only thing I don't miss is how much heat gas ranges throw off vs electric! I had the oven and a couple burners on for a bit one day and had the bedroom door open upstairs that has the thermostat in it for the upstairs system and it kicked the A/C on quite quickly.
 
The oven just finished its maiden voyage, baked some gluten free frozen cookies. They came out baked very evenly! Took about 3 minutes longer then the maximum time suggested on the package, the old electric oven had them done right at the max amount of time suggested. I did use the convection bake feature, so maybe the auto compensation dials the temp back just a tad too far. I will have to get an oven thermometer and see just what's going on in there. I did notice the burner cycles very frequently! It seemed to be doing about 45 seconds off and 30 seconds on, which is shorter then the elements in the old oven cycled even.

The GE's maiden voyage part II

Tonight I thought I'd break the griddle in and cook up some breakfast for dinner.

For the first time in ten years I didn't either under or overheat anything! I had just the perfect amount of heat the entire time, and the non stick griddle seems like a treat to use so far. Even anticipating I could barely ever get the heat right on the old electric cooktop!

We don't have gas service here, but, I LOVE and WOULD MARRY AND FATHER ITS KIDS, my new GE range.. Its simlar to the JB750, but more of the rounded top.. I noticed GE is changing to the square look..

The range I have is the best I have used in terms of electric stoves go.. The tri ring front burner responds almost like a gas burner and everything cooks so quick.. Only burned 1 thing thus far...

Oven is quick, even temped and nothing comes out not done

Only dislike is the top is a tad harder to clean

Sadly, I am afraid with GE being sold, there steller stoves will soon be gone and we will be stuck with crap cooking products

I had an 06 Ge Profile electric Stove i've carted all over the place and it didn't fit here at all, so I had to use the 20 year old Frigidaire Gallery Slide in (YUCK).. After not having a clock or a readable display and relying on my GE Convection Microwave as my main oven for 2 years (and a Breville toaster oven as my second oven) I gave in and got the GE...

Now I pray they let GE be and not make them cookie cutter crap
 
Re 60s and 70s

Also Frigidaire, Westinghouse,Kelvinator,Norge, Monarch...ETC, from the  50s and 60s and some into the7 0s, also  Chambers, Hardwick, Caloric Tappan....even the BOL models in the mid century timeframe were LEAGUES ahead of ANYTHING made today...in styling, in construction etc, I will admit some of the expensive stuff made today has improved over the 1990s, but you still can not buy a range today with a fluorescent light or a descent storage drawer.not knocking anyones ideas, just my 2 cents worth, of course if I had the funds to do it, I would be driving a Desoto or Chrysler with fins and pushbuttons as a everyday car, and would be watching a round tube color tv....
 
That Griddle!

Is VERY nice.....Have they improved the sealed burners to where they will turn down low enough to simmer, that was my main complaint with a new gas range...
 
Now that!

Would be wonderful!!!!!Im considering going back to gas cooking.I switch back and forth every few years, I like some things about both gas and electric.
