This is on offer at the moment in Makro 2 x family size tubs mix and match for £23.

So I bought a normal Vanish in the pink tub and the Vanish Oxi Action Crystal White... suppose to make your greyed whites 5 shades whiter lol.

Reason I have bought it is because my whites using the Lidl Biological powder are not coming out that clean but even though I was all whites on 60C. I am going to go back to Ariel or Persil next time these boxes have run out as whilst the Lidl colours powder is fine for normal day to day washing the whites is what is letting their biological powder down. But it was on offer and Makro/Costco didn't have Ariel on offer at the time and I had run out completely.

Makro also do Astonish's version of Vanish - Called Oxy Plus at a fraction of the price of Vanish but this time round the Vanish being on offer I decided to try it.

So question is those of you who use Vanish, the label says to use half a scoop for boosting the power in your normal wash and to use a full scoop for stains.

Do you ignore those instructions and just use a full scoop for a normal wash? I've read on a lot of forums that people just use a full scoop with each wash.

Cheers
Richard.

Ingredients:

Vanish:
>30%: Oxygen- Based Bleaching Agent, <5%: Anionic Surfactants, Non-Ionic Surfactants, Zeolite, Enzymes, Perfume

Vanish Oxi Action Crystal White:
>30%: Oxygen-Based Bleaching Agent, <5%: Anionic Surfactants, Non-Ionic Surfactants, Zeolite, Enzymes, Optical Brightener

Seems what you've got hold of there are basically two of the same product. Only difference appears to be the "Crystal White" version is bang full of bluing/OBAs. That is where the whiteness restoration comes in.

Usually prefer pure sodium percarbonate since one can add more of it to even a Persil wash without also adding more of what I don't want: more Zeolites, washing soda, perfumes, etc.....

That being said have used the Spray and Wash "Pink" version (now RB sold it on this side of the pond), and found it did a well enough job. Would use the stuff with vintage detergents that lacked enzymes and bleach (oxygen). Or, will use Tide "Vivid Booster" pods/Tide In Wash Stain Remover powder (sold as Ariel on your side of the pond)for the same reasons. Find all of these products add the extra bang required often when using liquid detergents. Besides the oxygen bleaching agents they add a bit of alkaline substance to the wash, that helps shift certain stains/soils.

Methinks Vanish wants the dosage upped to increase the amount of bleach to enhance stain removal. If you are using a powdered detergent that contains enzymes and bleach already, I'd start with one half scoop for normal to somewhat stained loads. If things are really bad then go with a full scoop.

Quite honestly think the difference may be only 5cc's or so, therefore other than the expense you may not notice difference between half or full. Again this would depend upon your choice of detergent.

You might want to sniff out a source for pure sodium percarbonate and use that instead, at least with detergents or situations where you want bleaching/stain removal extra, but not add more enzymes on top of what is in your detergent already.

Wise move going back to Persil or Ariel, Richard. I've found both keep whites looking their best without the needed for added stain removers or whitenening agents.

Have you tried Almat? Deffo worth a go if you have an Aldi near you. I've found it washes equally as well as Ariel and Persil but is a lot cheaper and you only need half the dose (55ml).

I echo what Chris has said regarding his powder recommendation. You may also want to try the tablet version of Persil as it has a higher oxygen bleach content than the powder, am unsure if Ariel tablets are the same.

If you feel your whites will benefit from an extra boost I recommend Sainsbury's Oxy Stain remover for whites. £2.49 for 500 gram tub, works equally as well ( if not better ) than Vanish for a fraction of the price. I have a tub in the cupboard for emergencies such as set in curry or tomato stains and it works a treat.

If your whites will stand it give them a couple of washes above 60deg to make full use of the oxygen bleach. I do heavily stained whites at 75d eg and everything comes out spotless first time, or if there are items in the load that won't stand that temp then I prewash then do a 60 deg wash.

Thanks guys for the info. I do have an aldi near me and I researched the lidl/aldi thing before I bought and it seemed there was similar reviews of support for both stores so thought they was both similar.

I will try Aldi next time though. I've looked in eBay and found http://bit.ly/1bmn13o which seems to be the active ingredient in vanish so I am gonna buy some of that when the vanish runs out.

I don't know the price differences in UK but here in Brazil, both Vanish versions are very expensive.
Said that, most people end by buying SA8 safe bleach (it's almost the same thing) but the product seems to be more concentrated. and it costs the same but it's an 1kg bottle against a 900g pot of Vanish. The dose Amway recommends is 1 capfull. (50% less than vanish).

I think you should also give a chance and try other products and also try different doses, starting with a small dose and increasing it according to the desired results.

For years, I saw on the supermarkets a brand I would never think about buying. Ype. It's not a "B" brand... it's the cheapest detergent on the market... probably a "Z" brand.

it's up to 3 times cheaper than Omo and Ariel (A brands) and one day I bought it because i was looking for a cheap crap to wash some rags... I was shocked with the results right on the first wash. It's MUCH BETTER than any other detergent sold in Brazil. (Include Omo Progress and Ariel Pods to that list). And it also smells much better. Fresh and clean, instead of "pine" or "musk" from other powders or liquids. Now I use it for everything and I don't even need to use other aditives like Vanish.
