Our group is represented in the new Legoland

Today we went to the new Legoland that is 15 minutes from my house in Winter Haven FL. It was built on the site of the old Cypress Gardens. They have left alot of the old Cypress Gardens and built new also. They plan to re-open the water park in the near future. This first picture is from the miniland area where they have replicas of some of the major cities of the USA all made from over 30 million legos taking over 2 years to build. It is from New York city and is a laundromat on one of the city streets.

If any of you are old enough to remember the first Cinerama movie to be shown on the curving screens, there were great shots of the performances in the shows at Cypress Gardens park. The movie was titled "Cinerama" and it was filled with things like waterskiers standing three high, but the speed boats flying through patches of burning gasoline on the water were more exciting.

I beleive that first Cinerama movie was called "This Is Cinerama!"I remember seeing how the West Was Won in Cinerama-was in Downtown Wash DC.Before the movie started--an announcer walked THRU THE SCREEN and described the Cinerama expereince-Cinerama screens were made from many vertically hungs strips of screencloth.-much like a vertical blind.and the speakers were behind it.and of course-presented with 3 syncronized 35MM projectors!There three 1hr reels for each hour of movie shown.the soundtracks were magnetic-recorded on each reel.The best movie experience I had-rivals what is today.Of course Cinerama prints and theaters are VERY expensive-something like only a couple are still in use.Many Cinerama projectors got "Recycled" for use in regular theaters.Specially made by Century.The film apetures would be replaced-along with the soundheads for regular film projection.I would have LOVED to see that booth operation!3 projectionists!

I learned that if you did not sit toward the center of the theater, you felt like you were falling out of the picture; not a good thing when in a roller coaster sequence.
