Hi Scott,
Thanks for the comments. My dad's friend out in Roscoe (West Texas) has the matching washer to our dryer. The reason for the sloping front on the dryer is that the washer, while a normal DD Kenmore on the inside, has a Calypso-style lid, and it's curved at the front like the dryer's top is. It probably has that lid to show that it's more TOL (as well as the HUGE array of knobs on the front).
That damn Hotpoint DW has turned the kitchen into by far the ugliest room in the house. First of all, it's noisy and guzzles water, especially on the Pots & Pans cycle (tub fills HIGH there)! But it's not messing up the kitchen by appearance. A leaky drain valve (I don't have the repair manual or else I'd fix it) has caused the Wilsonart laminate flooring in the kitchen to rise up, forming ugly "bubbles" in the floor. It's HIDEOUS, and since it's a galley-style kitchen, you can see the damage from the living room, and it's spreading. My parents are already going to have to spend a lot to replace the floor, but now that there's a Lowe's in Brenham we can finally replace the DW with a GE or KA...the Hotpoint's days are numbered.
The range and refrigerator, while ugly almond, are still doing great. After the DW's replaced (and the kitchen's tiled), next comes the refrigerator. We're thinking a TOL SS GE Profile side-by-side. The Whirlpool's going to the shed; it looks & works too well to be thrown away. I might also eBay it...who knows?
Actually, the picture with the Junior in it was taken before I found the '83 Zenith at an estate sale and put it in; the chair was where the Zenith is now (next picture). I did realize the bumper was missing, however. I should have ordered a new one in 2003 with the NOS bag bellows & belts...didn't think of that.
Gotta love those 70's-80's GE clock radios!! I was originally looking for a higher-end GE or Panasonic vintage flip-number clock radio, and this one was digital, but I still had it in mind. I would have REALLY liked to have found a GE 7-4885 "Great Awakening" Programmable Clock Radio from the late 70's/early 80's, but every one I bid on I lost. I was using a newer Timex clock radio at the time, with an annoying, weak alarm and stiff manual controls, so I couldn't wait and be too picky. I paid $10 for the "Touch Control" and was the only bidder...that surprised me. It's a good clock radio; has GREAT sound for its size, adjustable volume for the alarm, fast time set (not "Hour" or "Minute" buttons...YUK), a large Snooz bar, and what I like most, 2 separate wake times!
I did spot a 7-4885 on eBay recently (picture of this eBay 7-4885 below), but I was out-of-town Thursday & Friday and couldn't bid...a shame since it was in near-mint condition, as well as the blue-display model that I'm after.
Many people have commented on how the 7-4885 was the best clock radio ever made. From looking at the features and styling, I agree. This is the only clock I would replace my "Touch Control" with. If anybody reads this and has a 7-4885 that they're not using...let me know (
[email protected]) so it can go to a good home!! This particular "Touch Control" model is somewhat hard to find as well; I'll definitely trade it on a 7-4885!
