Hey everyone, when I've been able to I have been working diligently on solving our growing out of our current website host problem. I you haven't seen the thread about this issue that I started, please see this I’ve got Good News and bit of Bad News… from last week.

So anyways, I think I might have found us a new home. Its our own private space inside a server that is dedicated to growing and very busy websites like automaticwasher.org. I've created our website on the new server, it is a copy of our live site as of yesterday afternoon. When you click over to the test site please be aware of the following things:

#1 For upgraded users, the wash/rinse/spin buttons do not work over there. I believe they will not work with an IP address for an URL address.

#2 Please be careful to notice which site you are posting on, our LIVE site will have the usual address starting with http://www.automaticwasher.org in your address bar. The TEST site will have an address starting with http://174.121.188.189/~automa7/. The test site also has TEST SITE written on the navigation as seen in the image below.

So go ahead check out the new site (you get there from the link right below), you will have to log-in again then post things, upload pictures, play to your hearts content over there. Nothing that is typed over there will be saved, I'll wipe it out and take a fresh copy when its necessary and before we go turn on the site for good. Let me know how it works, reading the threads seems to go faster for me, but uploading pictures seems slightly slower. Of course I'm most concerned with the speed that the threads are downloaded. Thank everyone, I'm going to try to make this transition with as little stress for everyone as possible, but there will be some issues, aw.org is growing up.

Seems to work well. There was some hesitation when I first clicked on a few threads but that seems to have resolved. After that pages seemed to load quickly, I wonder how it will be under load. I've been noticing more and more lags when I click on a thread recently.

I'm wondering that as well Matt. It seems like the site is getting busier and busier by the day and I'm not sure if our current host is throddling back the amount of bandwidth that the site is allowed to use at once.

If the site new runs too slow under load I can ask them to add CPU power and memory, but all that will cost more $$$. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

I created a new thread in the Test Imperial Forum with a great old Estate Sale Memories thread with lots of pictures Please keep testing everyone...

Robert like I wrote in the test system I think anyone logging into the test will take a few views or comments as a burn in then eveything will be good.

Thank you Charles, I appreciate your help. That "burn in" period I expereince on other sites as well as you are downloading all the menu images and .css information for the first time, after that it speeds up, so I'm pretty sure that is normal.

Geez, call me blonde or something, but when I saw this thread I thought you were actually moving to a new house lol. I was thinking, is he going to have to build a room for his collection, but then I remembered the post about switching servers. I haven't had but a half a cup of coffee yet, so forgive me lol.

Verns and your blond moment

Vern you weren't the only one who had the same thought. Me I was thinking, OH NOOOO!! Robert & Fred are looking for another house, they've foud one, and I didn't even get to see the one they're in now!!! I was very sad cuz I wanna see their house so bad. Haven't been able to get there and see it yet.

Fantastic work in progress!

I'm reporting a couple of issues: as a standard member i can't log-in (error 404 all the time)
plus the download speed seems way slower than the current website!

Hi Gabriele,

I just tried to log in as you and it worked perfectly for me. Please try it again. Also the server speed seems faster to most of us, the first minute or so that you are over there it will be slower because the system is downloading all of our graphics to you. Let me know what you find speed wise. Thanks!

Also I should mention to everyone that at :12 minutes past every hour the server makes a back-up copy of its database. During the 20 or so seconds that this process takes, the server will become very sluggish. By :13 after the hour all should be normal again.

TESTING... TESTING.....

Hi Robert,

Gabriele commented here on the "real" site he had a problem logging in to the "other site". I went over there to comment... scrolled thru the thread and noticed I need to log in too. So I tried to log in at the BOTTOM of the page and that's where I encountered the error below.

I scrolled to the TOP of the page and was able to log in just fine.

Other then that, everything so far looks GREAT!

Kevin

Hey

Well when the server is finishing up doing a back up you could have an audio clip of "How Dry I Am" from a westy dryer signal it's done. LOL

(just a little humor)
