Oxydol liquid results

Did a small load today of mostly whites along with light colored non bleeding colors.

The overall load was slightly larger than medium, used hotter than warm wash, normal agitation.

I used two full caps as per the recommendation.

To summarize, I am not at all impressed with this stuff. It does smell ok, does not generate excessive suds, but it did not remove underarm odor and only faded the ketchup stain I put on a white, cotton cleaning cloth as you can see in the attached photos.

Sure it was a whole buck, but like a lot of bottom feeder detergents and liquid fabric softeners, you do get what you pay for and in this case, I did not get much cleaning.

Will pass on this going forward.

It is great for lightly soiled clothes,

and a cheap for dark clothes on a budget.

Hence no cleaning on that washcloth.

Less color bleeding on as my grandmother use to say..on Colored Clothes.

Is OK for very lightly soiled stuff.  It is not heavy-duty by any means.

 

I have online-ordered Oxydol POWDER, it comes in 4 cartons and lasts me a year.  About $72 with shipping, worth every penny.  Excellent results with a boost from STPP on whites/pastels.

 

I'm a psoriasis sufferer, so often have to deal with bloodstains on sheets, towels, underoos and other whites.  For this reason, I wear a lot of black/dark colors.  For stained whites, I put in the machine with 1 tsp. STPP, one or two measures of Oxi-clean (measure comes with product).  Fill machine with COLD water on low level.  Agitate for 3 min. to distribute product then let it sit overnight.  In morning, spin out, then add regular whites/pastels on usual level (high) with HOT, plus Oxydol powder and another tsp. of STPP.  Run normal cycle. 

 

I can't stand fabric softener smells, so I rinse with 1/2 cup white vinegar in Downy ball (I have no softener dispenser).  No, your items will not smell like a salad.

 

If it's something really nasty like tomato sauce, gravy, cooking oil, olive oil, I pretreat with Shout! spray and soak like above.

 

Stains all gone.  Every time.

Thanks for posting your results, Ben.  Looks like Oxydol will be a lightly-soiled loads only detergent, but I contend there's a place for those on our shelves.  Every load doesn't require the power-punch of Tide With Bleach Alternative.  

 

Some of our beloved vintage detergent brands still exist---but in name only.  There's no real connection with the detergents we remember from the past---sort of like my Electrolux-produced Frigidaire appliances.  The brand says Frigidaire, but they're not what we at AW consider real Frigidaires.

 

There are, as other members have mentioned, different versions of Oxydol currently on the shelves.  

 

Photo #1:  This photo came from Dollar Tree.  Does it look like the bottle you purchased?

 

Photo #2:  The 2x version, shown here, was the one tested by CR that scored poorly.  

 

Photo #3:  This is the Oxydol I remember.  Loved the scent and green crystals.

 

Aside:  I noted in another thread that many laundry-related Google Images search results come from posts at AW.  Photo #2 (a cropped version of the original) was posted by Martin (Yogitunes), while photo #3 was posted by John (Supersuds) in 2007.

Yogitunes arrived at the Washin with a box of Oxydol powder, new production and I can't recall where he said he got it. I cannot find that up here at all.
