Hi There!

I'm new here, & have been reading AW.org for a few years now. Found it to be very helpful on opinions of things, such as Quick Wash cycles etc.

I don't own any washers / dryers but do know a bit about washers / dryers / twin tubs. But please bear with me I will get better.

I was just thinking about doing a thread for P&G Detergents. I'm a big fan of Daz & Bold, not so much of the other two.

Thanks for all replies!!

Thanks for youur reply Chestermikeuk, I will agree that Persil is good. Love the Powder best & the liquigel. I think I'll just post of readily done forums for now.

I categorically will not use ANYTHING made by P&G - I strongly disagree with their policies on animal testing. Although Unilever have admitted to animal testing practices, they have kept things as humane as possible and are actually funding massive amounts of research into alternatives.

P&G, on the other hand, have been caught out several times with their animal testing and have refused to do anything about it - they just don't care.

Some links worth looking into:

http://www.uncaged.co.uk/pgtesting.htm

http://www.iamscruelty.com/ (this one is specifically for Iams, which is a P&G brand)

Further to that, I've also found that aside from Ariel, P&G washing powders just don't wash as well as the alternatives. Bold, Daz and Fairy have always been low performers IMO, whereas Unilever's cheaper brands (Surf and formerly Radion) always did considerably better.

I always use a powder - either Persil or I use a store brand (such as Aldi's Almat).

I think you mean Cold Power dear lol

Im planning another trip back to the UK in July/August but nothing definate yet but am aiming for around that time :-) Maybe I can meet up with you guys again :-)

Personally I've found "Throw & Go" the most effective detergent by far.  You can have your Ariel and Persil, I'll swap one packet of my Ariel powder for two packets of Throw and Go ;-)

Throw & Go

Oh yes i've seen those, just needed my memory refreshing!

I am pondering on wether to use wash balls & probably will do a thread on that, just not yet!

Well Chris....am not so sure! The pack claims wonderous things.....maybe Jon has stumbled on the deal of the decade!

Seriously though.....I doubt ANYTHING that costs a pound for 12 washes will be any good, however, you know me....am unfortunately still a brand snob and still can't bring myself to buy Aldi washing powder even with your recommendation.

Due to AW.org I went & got myself some Aldi Almat in Colour form & let me tell you it's fantastic! For a start its cheaper than Persil & Ariel Colour, you only need 50ml per wash load (in my soft water, 50ml for clothes & 75ml for the rest). The powder dissolves rapidly due to the small amount, which is a blessing as I'm forever cleaning out the powder drawer otherwise! It works well on Quick Washes as well as Normal Cottons/Synthetics Washes & I rang the Caroline to order a scoop & they sent me one that's proper pastic & comes from Germany.

To top it all off you get 30 washes if you use 100ml per load, however I use 50ml / 75ml per load so will approximately get nearly double the amount of washes for the same price & costs less per wash!

Plus the powder foams up nicely during a wash cycle & smells great, really flowery.
