I was twenty-nine hours without power. Ninety plus miles per hour winds. This last couple weeks have been a disaster for all of us with the high winds and flooding and downed trees. I am doing fine now but would like to know how all the rest of you affected by this storm are doing. Could you please let us know?

Burien Blow

It was wild Wednesday afternoon. I do supper at church on wednesdays and the lights kept flickering, but stayed on. It was a wild week and amazing to see such volumes of water coming down. I was astounded at how slow every was driving on I-5. I get a bit insular in the Town Car, which plows through anything. 1 1/2 hours to go 16 miles to a doctor appointment. Great storm to watch, nothing here was hurt and the worst is that I complain about slow drivers that cause accidents because of the frustration they cause drivers around them. Two testicles and a steering wheel and it won't be long until it isn't the brain making the decisions.

My yard is a complete disaster. Several tree branches have come down, and debris is strewn everywhere. My electricity only flickered a few times, but I know others who lost power for several hours. My neighborhood is new within the last few years, so all of the utility lines are underground which prevents the downed tree limbs from interrupting electric and phone service. I'm very grateful for that. And I live on top of a big hill, so fortunately all of the water from my area runs off to the lower elevations below, so no flooding worries for me. I do have lots of very tall fir trees in my neighborhood that sway precariously in the high winds, and I always get so nervous watching them. They just look like they could snap so easily and split a house in two.

Hit us hard here too. We have about a foot of water in the basement - the dryer's on stilts (ok pallets actually). Trees down everywhere and still thousands without power. My partner was in hospital all week and I swear you could feel the building shaking. Over 300 mm of rain so far this month. The average is 170. AND apparently there's another storm heading this way...

Everything was fine in my neighborhood as well. My neighborhood was built about 11 years ago so the trees aren't big enough to do any damage. The wind blew most of the leaves away so that helps with raking! I did notice a neighbor's house that has a giant blue plastic tarp stapled over two windows presumably to stop water leaking in during the heavy rains we had. My power is underground as well so no outages.

I really feel for anyone that suffered damage as I know it can be quite expensive. Some of the stories I saw on TV were of people that had trees come crashing through their roof. It was amazing no one was killed.

Nothing to report.

Basement is dry, and the power has stayed on (The power hardly ever goes out in Seattle proper, but the suburbs are another story)

Our house in on the edge of a steep hill, which always makes me nervous in heavy rains, but no problems so far. Keep your fingers crossed ;-)

The building I work in can get really creepy during high winds - you can feel it sway. It's designed to do that, but that doesn't make it any less creepy. We're on the 32nd floor, which is towards to top, which means that we move more than the lower floors.

I have to say..........

I saw all of it first hand because of the nature of my job, I was right in the middle of all of it( Delivery driver) Sloshy shoes, lots of rain, high winds where I almost lost my hat, costomers that lost power as well as two of are locatons for about three hours on Wed.It was raining so hard the other night, I thought that I was going to have to get out of my car and build an ark! My yard did fare ok, lots of leaves all over the place, I am glad, for now, that Mother Nature has decided to take a break from her Furry over the NW. I am sure that she has more planned for us in the near future.
