50Hz Motor at 60Hz supply!

The 50Hz motor will run about 20% faster at 60Hz altough the voltage may be compatible.
However the motor will produce about 40% more G-force in the machine. The extra G-force could be high enough to damage the machine.
 
Toggle, if you are going to replace it, get a Spin-X!!! I got mine when it was 6 months old and I have had it for like 4 or 5 months and it still runs like new! It has given me a couple scares, like when it goes off balance due to a fleece jacket on one side and a towel on the other, but other than that, it is an awesome little worker. I use it after every load of laundry I do and I am still amazed at how much water it can get out! There is one on eBay right now...

Still going strong..

our Pakistani spinner is still going strong. It's confined to a small bathroom when in use so if it does let go, it won't hurt anyone.
It seems the whole effectiveness of these spinners is based on how well you balance the load, which is an artform in itself. We run everything through it. Normal clothes, 3 minute spin, towels 5 minute spin. We've added water to it and then spun it.
Now the cover that prevents clothes from escaping flew off a few weeks ago it didn't fly across the room, but instead got trapped between the lid of the machine and the spinning tub. It put lots of scratches in the plexiglass (by GE, of course), and made some horrific squealing noises. We don't use the cover anymore at all. If you pack it right, it seems like clothes are less likely to try to escape. We called the Laundry Alternative and they said they would ship us a new cover. They could not have been nicer.
I am sure Laundry Alternative would cover it under warranty. What you could do is have them replace this one, and if you don't want the new one send it to another member of this site. Have a legal release signed first.
I think this Pakistani spinner was a pretty good deal, but the SPIN-X is greatly overpriced. I think it would take about 5 years of use to get your money back in reduced drying time. This one I believe has already paid for itself. Loads of laundry hardly ever take more than 20-25 minutes, and heavy duty towels seldom exceed 40 minutes, whereas they used to take 1 hour.

Glad both you and the clothes were OK-Yes Don't blame you about getting rid of it -I probably would have taken it to the "plinking" section of the shooting range and tried some new members of my gun collection on it!!Or was there enough left?
 
i have used the "shooting range" method to get rid of some machines that died on me-was a fitting end-even more fun than the "krusher"In fact the shooting tenderized the items for the krusher.I had a HORRIBLE NEC VCR and a friend of mine had one too-we took both to the range and worked them over with various guns--30-06,6.5Swedish mauser,12ga shotgun-after all of that not much left.one of them didn't survive after an 8 round burst from an M1 Garand.All I could find after the barrage was the headwheel!Now that shooting pit is a housing district-miss it.Sometimes people dumpted washers there-would take parts and use the rest as a target.Its amazing what a 416 magnum does to a washer!!
 
Toggle, pissed can also mean furiously angry here (although we will tend to say pissed off, i.e. "He was so pissed off with her"), and piss is also another more vulgar word for urinating. As well as getting pissed as in getting drunk. Having recently turned 18 I tend to use the last mentioned definition a lot lot more :-D.

Actually I am a nice guy-sometimes just need some "Boom" therepy!That range also served as good source for washer parts-got a few agitators that way.The ranges out here won't let you bring "condemeed" appliances to the range!And they cost $200 per year membership-yes I have a few additions to my gun collection I need to try.Will have to break down and pay the $200 to try them out.

I would have sent mine to Allen /Whirlcool, but he no longer uses one.

Mine was actually useful with the top-loader but didn't pull much (if any) water out of a front-loaders batch. So I just spin the top-loaders stuff in the front-loader. LOL
 
Good for Tolivac, practicing your Second Amendment rights. When all other amendments are suspended, you can always reach for the Second to get the rest of 'em back!

Toggleswitch, I think Whirlcool's suggestions are good. I'm sure they'll replace the unit under warranty.

Re. those flying spin-mats: I can't imagine how they'd get loose unless the spinner was vibrating like crazy from an offbalanced load. There should be an edge around the interior of the spinner, and the spin mat should be just a tad larger so it stays in there under the edge. I don't recommend omitting the spin mat; anything that can get loose will, i.e. including shirt sleeves.

Re. The7 re. 50 hz vs. 60 hz: How does an increase of 20% in speed translate to an increase of 40% in G-forces? (Here's me setting myself up for a most un-geek-like embarrassment for missing some obvious law of physics, or maybe you're mistaken?) In any case, I always regard such instances as guinea-pig tests until/unless they prove out. That is, if I buy one of those English micro-twins and run it on 60 Hz, I'm not going to freak out if it self-destructs; after all it was a guinea-pig. But if it works, great.

Re. SpinX: These things are made in the USA in limited production runs, that's why they cost as much as they do. But with the price of natural gas (for the tumble dryer) going through the roof, they should pay for themselves more quickly now. I expect to be designing a communal laundry for a small cohousing project in a couple of years and will spec a Spin-X and put a coinbox or card-key on the tumble dryer, so people will see they're saving money when they save energy.

Last but not least: There is presently a commercal extractor on Ebay; do your search for "clothes washer" and look for the obvious product title that comes up. Presently has 3 days to go.

I own a Spin-x for about 8 years. Bought it in 98. It has not given me one bit of problems. It has a stainless steel tub and it has an internal 3 minute timer. While it is loud during the spin it's usually because the load is unbalanced, but it has never walked from it's spot. I paid $359 for it with shipping and I think it is now somewhere in the $400 range. It's well worth the cost as I too live on LI and dry by gas and it has cut the cost of my gas bill considerably. I can dry 15 towels after spin-xing them in about 40 minutes on the automatic cycle. If you really want another spinner I would definately recommend buying the spin-x.
