"Aids memory and concentration. Helps improve mild memory problems associated with aging". Herbal supplement.

OMG It's eally getting scarier as one matures.........

Made my morning coffee in a small Farberware electric percolator. No longer do it stovetop in that I tend to forget the heat on and make a mess.

Anyhoo, made my coffee and poured it. Unplugged coffee-maker right then and there, lest I forget later.

Stirred in sugar. Stuck the spoon in the Dishwasher.
UHM I rolled it to the sink and ran it last night, so it's full of "cleans". Ok then, lets empty the tableware basket and find the hot spoon.

Done.

I go back for a second cup of coffee and nearly do it again. But even sadder. WHERE IS THE FIRST SPOON? I HAVE NO IDEA.

LAWD HAVE MUSSY ON ME!

Do you know why the universe takes away our memory as we mature? (Read: Enter and pass through trolldom?) So we don't miss our looks, virility, body fitness, old friends, deceased family etc. LOL!

So tell me your stories of going to the basement and forgetting WHY.

Going to the office supply rooom and forgetting WHY.

Going to the supermarket and leaving the shopping list on the table, shopping fomr "memory" then not buying the two critical items that triggererd a shopping trip in the first place

Going out of the house and leaving the wallet and or mobile phone at home.

and the list goes on and on...........

:-)

Oh, for pity's sake,

Toggle, ease the heck up.

At least for me, most of my memory glitches are easily explained, and almost as easily remedied.

Stress.

Tiredness.

Unbalanced eating.

Partial dehydration.

Lack of physical motion.

Not enough physical affection. Hugs or "more."

Consider these suggestions, try counteracting them, and then you may freak out.

Remember, at 48, I am rather older than you are, so there!

Errr... I'm 23...

And I'm worse than that, at times I forget where I last put my watch for days or what is the room I have classes or the name of the lecture or where my wallet is, this is dreadfull as most of the time it gets forgotten on the table near the bancomat as I do a withdrawl, you can't imagine how many marathons I made to get it back all the time!
Plus I need to add all the stuff in your list :)

BTW: ginko biloba, I tried it and the taste and aftertaste of the pills is terrible! Plus I doubt it worked at all hehe :D

LOL. Had a very disorganized mess of an ex.
I dedicated two top drawers. One of for me and one for them.
Money, keys, wallet, jewelry (above the waist), watch go there.

Anytime the items were randomly thrown around the house, they were moved (by a gay little fairy elf) elsewhere. Eventually my point got across and the items were placed in their designated place every time, never again to be lost/forgotten. End of problem.

It's hard when your partner is a "surface abuser" that is comforted by the look of mess and chaos and has to have every surface piled high with stuff. Certain things can be overcome by good "training" and organizations. Others can not be.

ginkgo biloba

I take ginkgo every day, have done for about 10 years.
I have tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and ginkgo helps with that. It is the only medication for it I have tried that works.
There is a prescription drug that is supposed to mimic the action of ginkgo, called Serc (because it increased circulation), but I found it useless. If I use a quality, premium brand of ginkgo, the volume of the ringing quietens (but doesn't completely go away) over a few days. If I stop taking it or I try a cheap brand, the noise increases. (takes a few days.) There is a tinnitus society here and I have spoken to a couple of people there who agree it is the ONLY thing that helps.

I don't know how you could complain about the taste, just wash it down with a glass of juice or water.

Swallow, don't spit.

Chris.

Absentmindedness

I constantly leave the house forgetting my drivers licence or debit card etc. Never carry a wallet. The grocery thing forgetting why I'm there for what in the first place, happens all the time.
Yesterday I forgot my bank card when I went to certify a cheque, they don't if you don't have it. The day before no debit card, no driver license, no money when I took mom to the drugstore and decided grab a bottle of on-sale Tide. It's an everyday occurrence here.. LOL

I always forget things on my shopping list in the grocery store, even when I have the list.

Funny, I never forget what I am shopping for at the liquor store.

In the past year I have burned about 4 pots. I used them to heat water for my evening green tea fix. I just forget they are on the stove and I end up boiling them dry. Since they are part of our Cuisinart cookware set, they aren't cheap to replace.
Karen finally bought me a Russell-Hobbs electric tea pot. It automatically shuts off when the water boils, and it heats the water faster than on the stove.

Everday occurance here also. lol Just wait till you all pass the mid 50's mark. lol lol

Forget something everyday. Cell phone, house keys, at times forget to take all my meds in the morning. lol Forget to take money, Thank God there is a money machine where I work, and I use Easy Pass. lol

Go down to the basement to take clothes out of the dryer, phone rings, run up stairs, forget to go back down to dryer. lol

So you see it only gets worse.

Gee Togs, weren't you the one to post a comment about "420 overdose" recently? That's my excuse--but it doesn't even require an OD.

And a recent study indicated that Ginkgo biloba doesn't do anything to help with memory issues.

Once again, I say it's the modern age of multi-tasking that those of us born before 1985 simply weren't exposed to in our formative years, and we have ended up being at a disadvantage trying to get our brains and memories to keep up with the pace of living in the 21st century.

~And a recent study indicated that Ginkgo biloba doesn't do anything to help with memory issues.

Of course the study does. Simple over-the-counter herbs and vitamins are poo-pooed by the major pharmaceutical companies because they can't make any money off of something they can't patent.

Just WATCH the authorities go after anyone who claims a "non-drug" can work wonders.

LOL- Multi-tasking? Where 25 things are started and one is maybe half-completed? There is a REASON everone born lately now has ADHD. Too much stimulation when young.

Memory

I only take it when I "remember" it. I think my type 1 diabestes and daily low blood sugar reactions have really fried my brain. I've had type 1 diabetes for 19 years now and when diagnosed the Humalog insulin was $60.00 and now it is $106.00 per vial and still NO generic insulins. There will NEVER be a cure......Bill in Az.....

Multi-tasking

I don't think it has to do with being over 50.. have you ever been in a bingo hall. Those babes can eat a hotdog while unwrapping a chocolate bar and slurping on a coke thru a straw while they're gabbing on the cellphone and butting their cigarette out and still not miss dabbing all the called numbers over 10 sheets all at one time.

Toggles its only going to get worse! Well have some comfort in knowing that when the time comes when you need a good nursing home we know of a good one here in Mass in Danvers to be precise. I tell my other half that when the time comes that he loses his mind completely I know just where to put him....he says that he will go out with a martini in one hand and pills in the other.

Did it again this morning GRRRRRR

I rushed out this morning for a 2 day sale at Superstore to pick up some Filtrete Allergen furnace filters for $5.99, they're usually about $13-16 each.
Walking across the parking lot to the store I reach in my pocket and no money, no cards. Good thing I decided to go in to check before driving home and coming back.. It was a misprint and they were only 20% off, no deal at all harumphhh

I've done some things in my time that make me think my mind is going. Yesterday, I was boiling water on the stove for a pot of tea. I got online, watched an episode of Sanford and Sons, talked to a friend on the phone... 2 hours later, I remember about the water on the stove. Of course there wasn't any left, but at least I didn't burn the apartment down.

I've also added dirty dishes to a clean dishwasher, and accidentally taken "clean" (looking) ones from a dirty dishwasher.

A few days ago, I was doing the marketing. I parked my cart to look at some produce. Went back to my cart, threw the carrots in and started merrily on my way to the meat department. A few seconds later I hear a lady screaming, "Coos me. Coos me. Mira, Mira!" She pointed down to the cart... I had taken her cart WITH HER PURSE in it by mistake... mine was still sitting where I'd left it, with only a loaf of bread in it. She had a few other choice words for me, but they were all in Spanish, so I couldn't make them out. She must have thought I was trying to steal her purse. Can you imagine if she had had a child in the cart and I started prancing off with it!

I've done lots of other things... but my memory is so bad, I can't think of them!

Yesterday, I put a pot of water on the stove to boil. Left the house to go to Target. Halfway to Target, I remembered about the water on the stove... I didn't remember turning it off. I was so upset, I was shaking. I drove home 90 MPH only to discover that I DID turn it off, but forgot I did it. Can you imainge if I'd burned an entire apartment complex? Scary!

memory loss

LOLZ well if it really does come with age by the time that comes ive forgotten my birthday!!!! im 23 and i fill up a cup with water to drink and for some reason forget where i place the cup and get another one and then an hour later find it, i always obsess about putting things away neatly and back where it belongs only to forget where the hell it originally went!!! ohh and you'll guys love this when im doing laundry i forget i am and the load will be done for maybe an hour max and i go" mother f*ck i have to get the clothes". but my excuse im under plenty of stress lately and since i wont go back to smoking like a chimney im eating like thanksgiving everyday ok too much said!!!!

LOLZ

I finally bought an address book to put down people's addresses and phone numbers because I could see myself beginning to forget them. A sobering thought.

Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh>>>

I have to write a list for what I need to do for the day. I lose it and just say WTF !!!! But I never forget where I have to and when to pick up a nice machine. LOL.
I hate when I have to go back into the house 4-5 times. Keys. Phone, Work stuff, Oy, it sucks.

I used to burn pots a lot more...

Since I moved my office to the family room, which is contiguous with the kitchen, that happens a lot less.

There is apparently some evidence that high insulin levels can lead to dementia in later life. This is in turn thought to relate to the longer life span of people and animals on calorie restricted diets. Lower caloric intake = lower insulin levels. This doesn't bode well for those of use with type 2 diabetes who are treating it with insulin.

BTW, I'm told that regular insulin is relatively inexpensive, even if it's not off patent. The short term and long term modified insulins however are much pricier. I'm a bit po'd though that the FDA and/or Congress has decided that ALL drugs derived from genetically engineered sources are permanently protected by patent. This is just plain wrong. There should be a time limit on such things, enough for the companies to recoup their R&D expenses and make a reasonable profit, but not to gouge patients indefinitely.

You're right

Hi, Rich. You sure are right about that. Alot of my friends get mad at my attitude about diabetes. I can't believe why Humalog was $62.00 per vial. Now it is $106.00 at wal-mart. I think regular insulin is $26.00. I tell people on my Insulin-pumpers.org site that I NEVER participate in diabetic "fund raisers" because there WILL NEVER be a cure. It costs over 300 BILLION to treat worldwide. The Eli-Lilly company would NEVER allow a cure to get in the way of their profits...Very sad and EVIL in my opinion........Bill in Az.....
