Pumice stem to absorb coffee acids

I always wondered, both what that material was and what it was for. The new ones no longer have that piece.

I also have a corning Electromatic skillet, works great and it's good for using on the patio during hot spells to save on a/c. no upkeep really, if something spills a little Bon-ami or such.

Cool! For its relative low cost, the "Poly Perk" was actually quite a nice product.

I finally got me a Farberware perc,

I just came home from an estate sale and found a 12cup Farberware SuperFast, Made in USA, with the pumice on the stem. Snagged it for $2.50. It is a model: 122B. Did a test run with water, and they're right, they are "SuperFast"! lol

I forgot to ask in the previous thread, can the Farberware stems with the pumice, go in the dishwasher? I don't want to ruin it if it can't.

I do.

The pumice in theory absorbs the (bitter) oils, and releases them upon washing.

Farberware 122B

I believe this is the perk that you picked up today. I love this Farberware perk since it has a signal light to let you know that the coffee is ready(Yeah, like you can't hear wnen the coffee is done perking). It is a wonderful piece of history.

My wife loves your Corning pot with the blue daisies. I've never seen those before, were they premiums or limited editions? I personally like the yellow floral one in the middle.

I really don't know the history of those flowered Corning perks.
I started my collection years agon on Ebay. I got lots of Corning pots from sellers when the auction was pulled off Ebay because the the Corning recall(see link below). Ebay was not allowed to sell them, so I asked the sellers about their item before it got pulled, then privately emailed them and asked if they wanted to sell the pot privately since they could not sell it on Ebay.

Lots of my collection came from Tag and Estate sales too.

There's always that 'one unique' perk that I don't have.....

That Farberware above I'm thinking is the one Chuffle has on his shelf in that other thread. I've not seen that one before. I've seen that style, but the base is different.

Gary, do you have one of the Prestos that has the white instead of black base and handle?

I have a 12cup Presto with the white base and handle. I found it at an estate sale about 3yrs. ago, I think I paid about $3 for it. I love the fact that everyting can go in the dw. I'm partial to Presto because they were made in Eau Claire, WI.

Found this Presto coffee-maker in Connecticut. Made in Eau Claire, Wisconsin yesterday at a tag-sale for $5.

My aunt has one. I remeber its sleek modern lines. It's a model# KK09A, 750 watts, fully immersible. The guts are a gold-tone aluminum, which means it is to be purely deocrative for me! Noisey, but quick with resulting coffee a decent 180*F; cause if it dont' burn the Gadget's tongue, it ain't good coffee! *LOL*

The little neon pilot light means "operating" (brewing) rather than "coffee's done and keeping warm"! How bizarre is that?

I'm assuming that is the 12cup model, correct? If you happen to drop the cover and break the glass knob, you can replace it with a Fitz-All replacement. I know this from personal experience, I was just sick to my stomach when it happened to me. Nice looking pot btw, the light thing threw me at first too, but I've gotten used to it. And yes, they're noisy things, aren't they? I donated mine to my sister and her fiance', because she wanted a pot that she wouldn't have to hand wash.

Wow...I never would have thought of putting a percolator in the dishwasher. Interesting!

The "Presto" was always a favorite of mine. I like the style both aesthetically and functionally, being immersible and the fact that the spout is just a "fold" in the metal and thus easy to clean. It does take some practice to pour from these without ending up with coffee on the counter, for some reason.

BTW, I think they may have changed the light in later incarnations-the ones I remembered did the standard "glow when the coffee is ready". BTW, older Sunbeams have the "reverse" light as well.

My parents retired near Eau Claire, WI (about 100 miles from the twin cities of Minnesota where I was originally from) and one of their neighbors had worked at the Presto headquarters in the 60s before she married. I've driven by it quite a few times and they did have a "factory store" on premises. I'm not sure if it's still operating or not, will have to research this.

Much of their stuff is still decent enough from what I can tell, if a fair bit more generic than their innovations of the mid century.

BTW

"Hoover" and "Hamilton Beach" (and possibly others) sourced very similar percolators from Presto at various points in their existence, if you see percolators with these names that seem "familiar".
