Persil Detergent now available at Shaws/Star Market

I was washing in hot

and my whites were gray.  Maybe only shade 30 or so of the 50 but gray.    Maybe it doesn't have the OBs that Tide has.  I have had no problems with Persil liquids with any of the washes, only the whites washing with Pearls, and my white cannon bath sheets were gray, my white Haynes Undershirts were gray.  

 

As I said before I thought it was my eyesight, as I am visually challenged, but my Mom who can drive thumb tacks with a 22 at 20 yards mentioned the gray as well.  Could just be our water, results may vary.

For awhile I was using persil pearls along with tide with bleach half dose of each, I had wonderful results, thought my whites couldn't be whiter, than a few weeks ago I found Tide Professional with oxi bleach at Ollies discount and it is absolutely amazing for whites. I bought 2 of the 140 load boxes than ran and grabbed 2 more.this must have a higher percentage of sodium percarbonate in it.

I'm heading up to Hanson this weekend. I'll pop into the local Shaw's and see if there's any Persil there.

Shaw's in Hanson, Mass. had Persil...

... until I bought the last 2 bottles, one "Original Scent' and one "Intense Fresh". As you can see, prices are a bit higher in suburban Boston than they are in South Philly :-(

I used the original for my one load here in Hanson in my mom's Kenmore Series 80. Sorry Yogi, I forgot the dogs; I'll replace them next trip.

Clothes came out smelling clean and fresh, but not overly perfumed or sweet.

I'll try Intense next load.

The Shaws near me has only the small load bottles and only liquid, no PowerPearls. I was kinda surprised by that and it is pricier than Walmart too. Luckily Walmart is just down the street from the Shaws in Salem MA.

Are any stores besides Walmart selling the ProClean 2 in 1 version? Didn't see it in any of the photos upthread. It was ranked the highest for stain removal by CR.[this post was last edited: 8/24/2015-20:09]

 I depend on the Perls to wash whites because it has oxygen bleach and rinses very well.  I use the liquid for colors. I have tried both versions of the liquid and think the 2n1 is a bit sudsy but like the regular liquid it rinses out well.  I just plain like powders vs liquids which I think are messy and hard to dose correctly but I realize they have a place especially in cooler water.

Nice to see so many positive reviews.  I actually have never tried it.  I think I will give it a run.

Is there different variations?  One better than the other?

There are a few types Brent. Basically 3 strengths essentially. The regular ProClean, Power Pearls (powder) and then the 2-in-1 (which is the strongest). All seem to be the same price from what I noticed at WalMart, so not sure why you wouldn't just pick the 2-in-1. I bought that and it works fantastic. I really like the smell too...I haven't tried the Fresh Scent yet.

I've only used the 2 in 1 version, as it sits at the top of CR's ratings, beating even Tide Ultra Stain Release by several points. It is quite sudsy in soft water, but breaks down well during the rinses.

The other versions of Persil score about 10 points lower than 2 in 1, but they're still in the top third of the list. Many here are very happy with the cleaning ability of the other versions.

Have to admit my daily driver is still the Tide Turbo HE pod. I save Persil for really tough loads of heavily-stained kitchen whites or, occasionally, bed linens. 2 in 1 must have very powerful optical brighteners because whites really 'pop'.

Saw Persil at a Fred Meyer (Kroger owned.) Not sure how new an arrival this is, but I tour laundry detergents pretty regularly just to see what's new. (Doesn't everyone?) I can't say when I was last down that aisle, but it's more than likely I was down it Mon., and almost positively down in the last week or two. I'm not totally surprised--this Fred Meyer was clearing out some detergents recently, and I half wondered/half hoped it meant they might be getting the Persil.

Only problem: it's something like $7 or $7.50 for a small bottle. The website for That Other Store where it's been carried says it's low $5 range there.

I think I saw 2-in-1. I also the Pearls, although those only seemed to be a big bottle.

I didn't get anything--I have too much detergent, and it's still line drying season, so I want unscented. But once dryer season starts up again, I might try Persil.

What kind of washer do you have FL or TL and when you use Persil 2n1 how much to you use; What line or the amount?

2010 Frigidare front-loader. I dose at line 1 in the cap. Using any more than that produces too much suds in softened water.

Saw Persil in Shop Rite this morning. They only had the 2 in 1 intense fresh (or whatever they call it) liquids in the small bottles for $6.79.

I saw the liquid Persil at Shoprite also while shopping today.  Seems like they had the regular and intense liquids, but not the 2n1 that was highly rated by Consumers Reports, or the Perls or Pods.  Not really interested in intense scent of anything.   What I was looking for was the Perls so I went to Walmart and found them there.  It was $14 for 75 loads. 

 

The pods:  It seems that some don't like them, others really do, so I wanted to try them.  All of the smaller sizes were sold out so I was left to buy the 40 pac size for $11.  

 

I know how the Perls perform which is why I bought them again.  Not sure about the pods for my conditions but.....Let my testing.... begin!  I am really curious because the liquid and pods don't contain any type of bleach, LCB or Oxygen, yet Consumers, and other people report good results from them.  I don't use CB so don't care about that, but  has something else been discovered that works just as well  or better than these these two types of bleaches in terms of cleaning not bacteria removal?

Saw it at Meijer yesterday in Detroit. Bottle caps were loose as mentioned earlier. Smell was very reminiscent of the laundry aisle in Europe...it just doesn't smell like the usual here in the US.

Oxygen Bleach

Can be dispensed with in some cases and still achieve excellent results. Much depends upon the stains in question along with product formulation.

Modern enzyme cocktails long with advances in detergent chemistry such as polymers can give a pretty good result for most stain removal problems. Have posted many times that Tide Coldwater "free" leaves a badly stained load of table linen almost totally clean in cold (85F) water all by itself.
