I was going thru my weekly flyers and came across an ad in the Shaws one and they are now selling Persil. So I think that other retailers are now getting it and its no longer exclusive to Walmart. I would say thats a good thing since I know quite a few people will not set foot in a Walmart.

Meijer stores have it too

I agree that the period of whatever agreement that gave Wal-Mart exclusive rights to it must have expired, as I saw a display of liquid at my local Meijer (Michigan based, regional chain) store. It was up near the front of the store, and I was on my way out, so I didn't go back to the detergent aisle to see what else they had.

Best part--the display had a pack of coupons attached, for $2.00 off, and they don't expire until June of 2016.

Interesting. I wasn't expecting it to happen so soon. Wonder if it's getting an immediate total-market release or if there's a multi-tiered release plan.

Has anyone else run into loose caps on jugs of liquid Persil at Walmart? I bought a bottle (20-load 2 In 1 version) earlier this summer in Mankato, MN. Detergent dripped out of a tilted bottle and onto the carpet of my car through a hole in the bottom of the plastic bag. The car was very highly scented for several weeks.

Last week I was back in Mankato on business, so I picked up another jug. This time, I checked to make sure the cap was tight. It was not! So I checked four others and they were all a little loose. I have a hard time believing sniffing shoppers are the culprits. If so, they have a talent for leaving caps identically loose.

Now you know the source of all those Persil coupons on fleaPay! People will seemingly take anything that isn't nailed down.

Sample packets of various pod products from P&G are also well represented on fleaPay. Again persons simply removed them from bottles and keep on keeping on.

What amazes one is when you see well dressed and obviously not short of a bob or two persons basically "stealing" those pod/GWP from bottles of Tide. Caught a woman doing it while shopping once (just happened to turn into the aisle while she was at it), and she looked up and said "I just want to try it before buying"... Didn't say anything and kept on going but have a hunch her bag was full of the things.

loose caps

I was going to Wal-Mart to get some detergent and I bought the big bottle of the pearls.I was scanning my own order when I passed the bottle over the scanner and the top came off and pearls flew all over my groceries it was a big mess. They need to pay attention to the caps.

Didn't even know that Shaw's was still around. They closed all their Connecticut stores around six years ago. Originally their entry into our market in the mid 1990s consisted of taking over old bankrupt Grand Union or Edwards' stores, doing nothing except changing the signs and running some of the filthiest and most outdated stores I have ever seen. It was too bad as we could have used some good competition for Stop & Shop.

But I digress - I too was surprised that Persil is more widely available so quickly - I had heard they were expanding, but I thought it was farther down the road.

Well, against both my and Lawrence's best judgement, I walked into WalMart tonight... I bought the smallest "trial" sizes of both the liquid and the Pearls. Never saw/touched this stuff before so I am curious.

I tested Eugene's observation on the loose caps. Almost every one of the liquid bottles I tried were 1/8th to 1/4th of a turn from finger snug. I'm not sure if its a bottle design issue with the way the cap interfaces the bottle, of if they have an automation problem with under torquing the caps. The cap doesn't have a hard stop like the ones on the Tide bottles do.

The way they package the Pearls in the same bottle seems odd too. The detergent builds up under the cap in the inner drip ring around the pour spout and fouls screwing on the cap. Seems like a hokey deal to me.

With the PowerPearls bottle I take the pour spout out so there is no issue with buildup under the cap. When I get near the end of the bottle for the liquid I do the same and remove the pour spout to get the rest of it out. Its not a big deal really. But having said that, they need to redesign the cap since even I have problems seeing where the bars are. Not so much with the Pearls, but the liquid.
My fave scent is the Original scent liquid and I use that for colors in warm water, the Pearls for whites in hot water. Then I use Downy April Fresh and the scent combo is quite nice.

LOOSE CAPS ON PERSIL: So, it appears to be real, then. Thanks, Phil and Carl, for your investigative work. The jugs I checked were all about a quarter-turn loose, as well. Certainly, as I learned the hard way, loose enough to leak detergent if the the bottle is at an angle in the vibrating/bouncing conditions of a 75-minute car ride.

AW MEMBERS: Should you find yourself at Walmart (or one of the new vendors), check a few jugs of Persil for loose caps and let us know if you find the same thing. So far it's confirmed in Minnesota and Tennessee.

USING PERSIL: Spoiled by the easy-to-see dosage lines inside the cap of Tide Ultra Stain Release--along with the cap's cool mini spout for clean pouring--I agree that the dosage bars inside Persil's cap are difficult to see. I drew lines on the outside of the cap at each dosage level with a marker. I dose at Line 1 and even less than that for small/very lightly soiled loads.

Persil Pro Clean 2 in 1 is a great detergent and I'm getting used to the prominent scent. Used it on a medium-sized load of very stained kitchen whites last night. It produces more suds during the Sanitize cycle's 70-minute wash tumble than do Tide Turbo liquid or pods, but it breaks down well. It interfered with proper tumbling the last thirty minutes or so of the wash. The load just sort of rolled over and over at the bottom of the tub, buoyed by the suds. But everything emerged stain-free and blazingly white.

Mike-- User reviews are rife with the same cap/spout vs. Mega Pearls issues you and Phil encountered. Many recommend removing the spout, as you do. Thanks for alerting us to Persil's infiltration into the general market. Hope it pops up at Hy-Vee grocery stores, eventually.

Glad to hear it is being sold at more stores, but really have no problem with getting it a Walmart.

About those lines.  P&G is moving to the exact same lines  found on Persil and I found them on my recent purchase of Downy so if you have caps from previous bottles I would save them.

>AW MEMBERS: Should you find yourself at Walmart

Lord Kenmore would be happy to check. Unfortunately, as far as he knows, Walmart is the only place that carries Persil, and he'd hate to admit to going to Walmart, even if only long enough to check detergent caps.

It's too bad, he thinks, that AW.org doesn't have the ability to post anonymously like some sites do, so those who feel shamed at even walking into Walmart can go, test Persil caps, and then report on the findings. LOL

In the past several weeks I've been in 3 walmarts Blairsville, indianias and Latrobe all in Pa...all the liquid Persil bottles were loose. I spoke to the manager that is responsable for stocking shelves, she told me a spokesperson was in the Blairsville store sometime in July due to many costomer complaints about loose persil lids causing spills. Several times these lids were checked comming out of the boxes and all was tight..but after sometime on the shelf they became loose. I said you have cameras, you should know whose doing it, she said she was not informed if the person was seen on camera. So if they are comming out of the boxes tight someone is deliberately loosening them. Question is who. I have my opinion, but I won't voice it lol.

I don't mind Wal-Mart

And I tried several varieties of Persil.

I liked their pods, a little sudsy.
The intensive fresh & original worked fine, no major stains to put it to the test though.

My beef was with the Mega-pearls. I first noticed it, but thought it was just my eyesight. Then my Mom mentioned the white towels were gray. I also noticed a gray tenge to my white T-shirts.

A couple of washings back with Tide and the Whites were white again. Quit using the pearls. It may just be me.

BTW--this whole move by Wal-mart was to get P&G to buckle to their demands and I noticed that Tide Liquid was lowered to a price point to match Persil on the shelves.

I REALLY don't believe that anyone is loosening the caps... Every cap on the bottles I tried in the store was pretty much equally loose. And they were only slightly loose at that. If I were going to loosen caps due to a grudge you can bet I'd do better! Ha

Its somewhere between the automated packaging machine and the design of the cap interface on the bottle. Unlike a P&G bottle the Persil bottle doesn't have a mating flat that they can torque against when tightening. They have to set the torque on the machine lighter so that they don't break the bottles. Add a little thermal expansion/contraction during shipping and you get what you get.

If you want to voice an opinion to anyone, I'd contact Henkel via their website. They are the ones that need the feedback!
