Persil Dishwasher pods

I noticed in Tesco that these were on the market, manufactured by McBride of Manchester, licenced by Unilever.

Has anyone tried them? I objected to Tesco's price: £10 for 30 pods. Supposedly a phosphate free formulation, but after Lidl's W5 phosphate-free problem, I was very wary - especially at that price.

I notice that Lever has them priced at £9.30.

I have tried them and find them very good! Dissolve rapidly and clean excellent. I got them on offer at Sainsbury's for £3.00 for 15 tablets. Would not pay more though than that.

Good, thank you. I'll shop around and see if I can get them cheaper. I really don't know what Tesco are thinking of - it just makes shoppers go elsewhere.

I tried them when they first appeared at my local Sainsburys about 6 months ago and were at a mega special offer. They are very good and at the right price I would definitely buy again.

If you like the Powerpro pods they are currently on buy one get two free at the Co-op which equals £5.25 for 45 as compared to £13.50 reccomended by Unilever for 45. Haven't used them yet but will do soon as I only have a few Finish tablets left.

Unilever's Sun range of dishwasher tablets and rinse aid, salt etc is still available here in Ireland, however it's really not very well marketed compared to Finish or Fairy and increasingly seems to have less and less shelf space.

It's quite a good product though and does the job really well.

I wonder if these new Persil dishwasher pods will replace it in this market too.

The Sun tablets are phosphate free and I have a feeling that that may be an issue here as in the past Persil laundry tablets were sold in Phosphate versions here that were different to the UK versions. I suspect they were actually Skip tablets in Persil boxes.

There are tighter rules here on phosphate loads in some areas than the UK seems to have.

From what I gather the detergents industry has a voluntary agreement with the environmental agencies here to ensure phosphates were kept out / to an absolute minimum.

I found older versions of Fairy tablets used to cause our Bosch dishwasher to over-foam and stop pumping and some Tesco tablets seemed to scratch our glasses so, I have generally stuck to Finish and Sun.

Sun's just great value though so I usually use that and it produces top rate results comparable to Finish one or the other is always on special offer.

Ordered the Persil tablets in the UK

But haven't come to test them yet. Sun (Progress) has vanished from the German market as is with Fairy tablets. What you do get is "claro 2020" phosphate-free tablets from Austria...

I think the Persil powertabs are better than Finish as they dissolve a lot quicker. Would keep buying them if they were on offer and like the fact they are made by McBride as they do make a lot of good products.

Tesco, meanwhile, has the cheek to discount the exact same product from £10, to £6.67.

Apparently they are the real deal. As others have said, they do wash well without excessive foaming.

Unilever appears to have licenced McBride of Manchester to produce the detergent. Unilever seems to have no interest or no capacity to make dishwasher detergents themselves. For some unfathomable reason they let the "Sun" brand disappear into the sunset.

Maybe they are testing the market, using facilities of others to prevent massive outlay themselves.

Im not entirely convinced still - the fact they had a white sticky label with ingredients and instructions on the back was a big suggestion.

The Persil pods I bought from poundies were nothing short of useless.

If they were genuine then im disgusted. Had better performing own label value brands.

Il give them a go when they come on offer at work again maybe.

Im none too keen just lately on these discount stores. Lots of counterfeit goods on sale even in the big chains.

Only last year did I buy 3 boxes of German Ariel in very good copy cat boxes from the same shop. Only when I got home and started to use the powder did I realise it was nothing more than cheap powder mixed with an ariel like fragrance.

The ones I got were genuine: English text on the packaging (no sticky label ingredients - as they do for imported Czeck / Polish / Latvian "Fairy Liquid" in the white bottle). Package stated that Persil Power Pro was licensed by Unilever, to McBride of Manchester.

Persil Apple Fizz washing-up liquid (I didn't buy any), apparently has three different surfactants: anionic, non-ionic and amphoteric.

My sister-in-law bought a "100 wash" box of Ariel, and is convinced that it was only half-full.

They still most definitely have Sun here in Ireland and I find it an absolutely excellent dishwasher detergent. It cleans as good as / better than Finish Quantum and it's phosphate free which is a big deal if you live in an area where phosphates can ultimately end up in lake water as they actually get through the normal sewage treatment processes.

The Lemon were in stock as well. No problems with performance here either.
